  • Norrie Falls To Etcheverry, Draper Edged Out By Fritz In ATP Tour Quarterfinals

Norrie falls to Etcheverry, Draper edged out by Fritz in ATP Tour quarterfinals

Cameron Norrie and Jack Draper were both knocked out in their respective ATP Tour quarter-finals on Friday.

British number one Norrie was beaten 7-6 (4) 7-6 (1) by Argentinian Tomas Martin Etcheverry in the last eight at the Barcelona Open.

And British number two Draper lost in a final-set tie-break against world number 15 Taylor Fritz at the BMW Open in Munich.

Norrie had reached the last eight by recording his 200th tour-level victory on Thursday but he fell short against a man ranked one place higher than him.

World number 30 Etcheverry immediately broke Norrie, but the 28-year-old responded in the fourth game of the set.

Those proved to be the only breaks of serve in the entire match, which was settled by two tie-breaks.

Earlier, Draper produced an impressive display to win the first set against American Fritz, who he beat at Queen’s Club in 2022.

But despite only facing one break point in the entire match and forcing seven of his own, Draper – ranked 46th in the world – fell to a 4-6 6-3 7-6 (1) defeat.
