Wolverhampton vs Fulham tips and predictions: Mid-table showdown will live up to the billing

Th most average Premier League fixture of the season takes place this weekend at Molineux as Wolves host Fulham on Saturday afternoon (1500 GMT).

Let’s face it, looking at the Premier League fixture list this weekend, it’s hard not to get excited.

Man Utd taking on Everton? That looks good. Aston Villa against Tottenham? Huge battle for Europe. Liverpool hosting Man City? Classic in the making.

However, for every massive game at the top or even at the bottom of the table, you get other fixtures which have an undeniable stench of average about them.

You know the type of games I’m talking about. The ones you always miss on Match of the Day because you end up falling asleep before they come up.

Wolves against Fulham fits into that category. Unless you are a die-hard fan of one of these clubs, I’m afraid there’s nothing here of interest.

Some might say we’re being a tad too pessimistic. Perhaps we’re wrong and the two clubs will prove me wrong.

Perhaps we will get an eight-goal thriller. Perhaps Marco Silva will celebrate a goal by crowd surfing. Perhaps Calvin Bassey will put his name in the hat for the FIFA Puskas award by scoring a 45-yard screamer.

It’s nice to dream, though here at Planet Sport, we’re all about reality. Unfortunately for us, the reality of this fixture isn’t wholly exciting.

Out of the last seven head-to-head meetings, five of them ended with either the 1-0 or the 1-1 scoreline.

Looking at the general form, Wolves have won three of their last four games, with all those victories coming by a single goal margin.

Fulham, meanwhile, have won three of their last four games – including a 2-1 success away at Old Trafford.

Both teams are unlikely to compete for European places in these final weeks of the season. Relegation is also off the agenda.

Sticking with the average theme, we’re backing both teams to play out a draw, with both to get on the scoresheet.

Team news

Wolverhampton will be without Matheus Cunha and Hwang Hee-Chan.

Fulham, on the other hand, will be missing Raul Jimenez.
