West Brom vs Southampton tips and predictions: Promotion race to ignite goal-heavy Hawthorns clash

There’s a big game feel around Friday’s Championship fixture as West Brom and Southampton go head-to-head at the Hawthorns (2000 GMT).
There have been some impressive unbeaten runs in sport over the years. Italy, for instance, went 37 matches unbeaten in international football between 2018 and 2021.
Rafael Nadal famously enjoyed an 81-match winning streak on clay courts between 2005 and 2007.

Southampton’s recent unbeaten run is also up there. Russell Martin’s men went 22 games unbeaten in the Championship and 25 across all competitions before falling to a 3-1 defeat at Bristol City on Tuesday.
The streak may have come to an end, though all that matters now is how the Saints bounce back against a fellow promotion contender.
While Southampton are currently third in the table, West Brom are fifth and are well in contention for a play-off spot.
The Baggies have picked up seven points from their last three league matches, only dropping points against fourth-placed Ipswich Town.
Southampton and West Brom last met in November as the Saints came away with a 2-1 victory at St Mary’s.
Their last visit to the Hawthorns took place in 2021 when they suffered a 3-0 thumping.
