Roma vs Brighton tips and predictions: Out of sorts Seagulls to struggle in Rome

Roma and Brighton will square off in the Europa League on Thursday night (1745 GMT) and we think the Italians could seize the initiative based on current form.

Roma’s season hasn’t gone how they’d have hoped, but the Italian side find themselves in good form as Brighton visit the Stadio Olimpico on Thursday.

Jose Mourinho’s sacking has paved the way for six wins in seven Serie A outings under Daniele De Rossi plus progression against Feyenoord in the previous round of the Europa League.

Brighton represents the best opponent Roma has faced in the competition this season, but the Seagulls must find form on their travels.

Roberto De Zerbi’s side have been thumped 4-0 by Luton, 3-0 by Fulham and also lost to Wolves and Tottenham in their last five away matches.

They secured qualification by reeling off four consecutive wins with a clean sheet but those results coincided with a much more positive run of domestic results.

The Italians have always been a tough nut to crack having suffered five defeats in 48 home Europa League times.

Even with Mourinho at the helm they were perfect in their group and recorded wins over Salzburg, Real Sociedad and Bayer Leverkusen last season.

Paulo Dybala has scored four goals in two appearances while Romelu Lukaku has registered six goals in eight Europa League matches.

That spells trouble for the visitors because not only have they allowed two or more in five of their last seven away games, but they’ve also failed to score in three of five and five of 10.

Team news

Tammy Abraham, Rasmus Kristensen and Rick Karsdorp will miss out for the hosts.

The dangerous trio of Lukaku, Dybala and Stephan El Sharaawy will start in attack.

Brighton will be without Kaoru Mitoma, James Milner, Jack Hinshelwood and Solly March.

Joao Pedro’s absence robs Brighton of their biggest goal threat in the Europa League.
