Gold Cup betting tips: United States to pass their toughest test with flying colours

The United States and Canada will meet in a mouthwatering CONCACAF Gold Cup quarter-final clash this weekend and we expect the host nation to progress.

The United States will face their toughest test yet when they meet Canada at TQL Stadium in the CONCACAF Gold Cup quarter-finals this weekend (kick-off Monday 12.30am UK time).

United States vs Canada verdict

The hosts have been able to breeze through the group stages on cruise control and even afforded themselves a sluggish start in a 1-1 draw with Jamaica.

Friendly neighbours Canada will provide a much tougher test of their credentials when the two meet in the quarter-finals.

Elsewhere, Panama face guests Qatar, Mexico meet Costa Rica and Jamaica square off against Guatemala. All three favourites are expected to progress.

The semi-finals could have a very familiar feel to them if the US can find a way past Canada and despite its billing as their toughest test yet, they should progress.

Les Rogues showed the world their teeth at the World Cup with Alphonso Davies and Jonathan David in particularly causing havoc for defences.
They probably deserved to beat Belgium and they started so well against Croatia before collapsing under pressure. The defence was an issue.
However, it's a much more domestic-looking team for this tournament with the aforementioned stars missing.
Draws against Guatemala and Guadelope are quite concerning and the defensive issues are on show again as they conceded two goals against Cuba and in their opener.
This still represents a big step up in quality but the US have already tangled with much better in the form of Jamaica.
The Stars and Stripes recorded a pair of 6-0 wins over Saint Kitts and Nevis and Trinidad and Tobago to reach this stage of the competition.
Jesus Ferreira scored six of those goals as the States fired off 70 shots across their three group-stage matches.
While no one expects them to take 34 shots like they did against Saint Kitts, Canada have been far too easy to play through.
They've allowed three extremely weak teams to produce 30 shots on their goal and nearly failed to make the knockout stages.
Even with an untried midfield and a core group of MLS players, we don't anticipate this being a contest and the odds look far too good to pass up.
Back the United States to win at a canter and score a few goals in the process.
