Freiburg vs West Ham tips and predictions: Hammers at the double in Germany

Freiburg’s leaky defence will look to slow down a resurgent West Ham attack in the Europa League on Thursday evening (2000 GMT).

Despite suffering from inconsistent Premier League form, West Ham are an all-conquering beast in Europe and should almost expect to beat Freiburg.

The Hammers have won five of six in Europe this season and confirmed their status as group winners when beating Freiburg 2-0 at the London Stadium.

David Moyes made numerous changes for the reverse fixture but that didn’t stop the English side from winning 2-1 on German soil.

The German side will be keen to extract revenge but they’re not in the best form. They’ve won one of their previous eight matches and have suffered from slow starts.

Conceding two goals in the first half has been a common theme as they continuously give themselves a mountain to climb, coming from behind six times in eight matches.

If their leaky defensive form spills over into this tie, they will be in trouble. Moyes’ side have allowed four goals in six this campaign and nine in 15 during last year’s Europa Conference League triumph.

They can already consider themselves lucky to have reached this stage of the competition after trailing 2-0 at home to Lens in the second leg only for Roland Sallai to force extra time with a 92nd-minute goal.

Given their recent propensity to concede in bunches, it’s hard to imagine West Ham not exploiting that.

Jarrod Bowen took just seven minutes to bag a brace against Brentford and later completed his hat trick.

They followed up that result with a 3-1 win at Everton thanks to two more quick-fire goals.

Team news

Daniel-Kofi Kyereh, Max Rosenfelder, Lukas Kubler and Kenneth Schmidt are unavailable for Freiburg.

Philipp Lienhart is a doubt.

West Ham have a clean bill of health except for Maxwel Cornet.
