Lens to win

Benfica to win

Feyenoord vs Roma

Roma’s Serie A away form has been poor for a long time. The Italians have won four of 20 on their travels and scraped past rock-bottom Salernitana last time out.

It hasn’t been much better in Europe as they’ve won two of their previous 12 in the Europa League, beating minnows HJK and Sheriff by a one-goal margin.

Feyenoord face an uphill challenge to retain their crown as they currently sit 10 points behind PSV in the Eredivisie, but Arne Slot’s side are in their best form of the season.

The hosts are unbeaten in nine, haven’t conceded in five and were able to beat both Lazio and Roma 1-0 at home in last year’s Europa League.

Shakhtar Donetsk vs Marseille

The winter break means Shakhtar Donetsk haven’t played a competitive match since mid-December, while Marseille returned to action several weeks ago.

Despite their billing as the home side, the Ukrainians are playing their Europe matches in Hamburg, Germany due to the ongoing crisis in their home country.

Despite their patchy form since returning from the Ligue 1 break, there’s little doubt that Marseille are the much better side and there’s no true home advantage here.

Lens vs Freiburg

Lens can consider themselves unlucky to have crashed out of the Champions League. The Ligue 1 side picked up points in all three home games during the group stage, including a 2-1 win over Arsenal.

The hosts have lost just two of 21 home games in Europe, also claiming the scalps of Bayern Munich, AC Milan and Bayer Leverkusen over the years.

Freiburg’s recent away form has seen them lose four on the spin and that’s nothing new as the German side have struggled on their travels all season.

Benfica vs Toulouse

Benfica may have crashed out of a tricky Champions League group without much of a fight, but they’re a major contender in the Europa League.

A trip to the Estadio da Luz is a daunting prospect when you consider Chelsea the only team to have beaten them there in 23 Europa League matches.

Arsenal, Juventus, PSG, Newcastle, Liverpool and PSV are among those to have tried and failed to conquer the Portuguese giants and Toulouse’s current form suggests they’ll suffer the same fate.
