Euro 2024: Romania vs Ukraine tips and predictions - Tight Group E opener expected in Munich

Artem Dovbyk scores for Ukraine

Romania and Ukraine will both be looking to make a cracking start to their Euro 2024 campaigns when the two nations clash in Munich this Monday afternoon (1400 BST).

Euro 2024 got off to a hot start over the weekend and the action continues with three more group stage matches at the start of the new working week.

First up on the menu is a Group E clash between two teams with a poor Euros record.

Romania, for instance, have participated in the tournament on five occasions but have only ever picked up one match victory.

Ukraine, on the other hand, have collectively played 11 matches over their last three Euros campaigns but lost eight of those encounters.

Romania will certainly fancy their chances after qualifying for the tournament with flying colours.

Edward Iordanescu’s side finished top of their group, winning six of their 10 matches and losing none.

The Tricolorii don’t have too many individual stars but as a collective, they are a solid unit which does not concede many goals.

Ukraine, on the other hand, bagged their ticket to the tournament via the play-offs having overcome Bosnia and Iceland.

Serhiy Rebrov has got some big names at his disposal, including Real Madrid’s Andriy Lunin, Chelsea’s Mykhailo Mudryk, Arsenal’s Oleksandr Zinchenko and even La Liga’s top scorer Artem Dovbyk.

We’re expecting a tight clash between the two sides and backing a draw is certainly not a bad way to tackle this fixture in the betting.

Dovbyk to score anytime is another option as the Girona forward looks to translate his phenomenal league form onto the international scene.

Team news

The biggest absentee for Romania at the tournament is winger Olimpiu Morutan who misses out with an ACL injury.

Ukraine, meanwhile, won’t be able to count on Everton’s Vitaliy Mykolenko who hasn’t fully recovered from his injury.
