Coventry City vs Ipswich Town tips and predictions: Town take control against deflated City side

Ipswich Town’s Premier League destiny is in their own hands and we’re backing them to make no mistake against Coventry City on Tuesday night (2000 BST).

This bizarre game of Championship Pass the Parcel will conclude this week, and Ipswich Town has the chance to seize control against Coventry City on Tuesday.

The Tractor Boys took the lead three times away to Hull on Saturday night, but as we predicted the Tigers caused them problems and bagged a point.

We’re less optimistic about Mark Robins’ side being able to stop the visitors in the current circumstances, but maybe we’re doing them a disservice.

City haven’t won in five across all competitions and looked extremely flat when drawing 0-0 with Blackburn at the weekend, although they showed some resilience with 10 men.

Tuesday’s clash at the Coventry Building Society Arena will be their fourth match in 10 days and comes on the back of FA Cup and play-off disappointment. The odds are stacked against the home side.

On the other hand, City have summoned the spirit to claim seven points from three meetings with Leeds and Leicester recently, and they haven’t bowed down to any of the top sides.

You’d expect McKenna’s side to be fresh and raring to go, especially as even a draw hands them pole position, but they’re winless in four.

Our Hull preview also touched on their struggles when visiting good sides. When visiting sides in the top half of the table, Town have claimed 11 points from a possible 30.

The most unpredictable variable is how Ipswich deals with the pressure. Less than two years ago they finished mid-table in League One and now Premier League football is in their hands.
