Argentina's Lionel Messi and teammates celebrate winning the Copa America

Argentina and Uruguay should have no trouble winning their group at Copa America, but Planet Sport is predicting an upset for Mexico and Brazil.

Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay, Colombia and the remaining South American nations clash with the United States, Mexico and Canada in this year’s Copa America.

The bookmakers have priced up their favourite to win each of the four groups but we’re going to go against the grain and predict a few surprises.

Our Copa America 2024 group winners acca is currently priced at 16/1 with Planet Sport Bet.

Group A: Argentina, Chile, Peru, Canada

Group A should be cut and dry. On the face of it, there’s nothing to stop Lionel Messi and Argentina from picking up at least two wins and potentially maximum points.

Canada showed some promise at the World Cup, yet ultimately they found ways to lose games. They’re about to enter a transitional period under Jesse Marsch.

Chile are winless in 12 meetings with Argentina dating back to 2008 and there's nothing in the recent formbook to suggest Peru can get the better of them, either.

Group B: Mexico, Ecuador, Venezuela, Jamaica

In our view, Mexico are in a group full of teams capable of frustrating them. They’ve been given the nod purely because they’re on North American soil and will be well supported.

They’re a shadow of previous decades, as demonstrated when they were thrashed 4-0 by Uruguay, a game they were favoured to win by the bookies.

Venezuela have had some success against Ecuador on home soil, but it’s a different story on the road and they’re in no sort of form. Jamaica are without some big names and will struggle the most.

Group C: Uruguay, USA, Bolivia, Panama

You could argue the price on Marcelo Bielsa’s Uruguay to win this group is extremely kind. After seeing what they did to Mexico recently and the form of Darwin Nunez, there’s nothing in this group to frighten them.

Beating Bolivia shouldn’t be a problem for either side, and it’s rare to see Panama pose a problem for the US on American soil.

But the USA haven’t beaten a team in FIFA’s top 25 under Gregg Berhalter and he isn’t about to outwit El Loco, so we’ll happily back the favourites.

Group D: Brazil, Colombia, Paraguay, Costa Rica

CONCACAF sides are always going to struggle against top South American sides and it’s fair to say Costa Rica have drawn the shortest straw.

Brazil and Colombia should make light work of them and goal difference from those matches could play a crucial role in who finishes top.

It's hard to beat against such a talented attack led by Vinicius Junior, but that's what we're about to do.

The Colombians are flying with seven wins on the spin including a 2-1 victory against Brazil and no loss in 22 matches. They typically beat Paraguay and we think they can spring a surprise here.
