Burnley vs Wolverhampton tips and predictions: Clarets fighting to continue miracle survival bid
Burnley’s attempt at avoiding relegation is gathering pace and the Clarets will be looking to continue their recent momentum away at Wolverhampton this Tuesday night (1945 BST).
We all gave up on Burnley. Yes, even you. It’s okay, you can admit it. Just a few weeks ago the Clarets were as good as gone according to the football community. Fortunately the sporting gods listen to no one, and they tend to write their own scripts.
Burnley’s script is reminiscent of one of those old-school Arnold Schwarzenegger movies where he finds himself in impossible situations yet comes out on top using sheer muscle, a nine-millimetre caliber pistol and two oversided machine guns.
This, however, is slightly different. Vincent Kompany may not be a former Mr Olympia but he is certainly no stranger to making the impossible possible in the Premier League.
His heroics with Manchester City are legendary, though if he can mastermind a relegation escape, that would undoubtedly become one of his finest achievements.
At the start of March, Burnley had just suffered their fourth straight defeat and sat level on points with Sheffield United at the bottom of the table. Survival was out of sight.
However, the Clarets have since gone three matches unbeaten and have picked up five points to give themselves a fighting chance.
Ahead of the midweek round, Burnley sit just four points adrift of safety and they take on a Wolves side who are slightly off the pace.
Gary O’Neil has done an incredible job with Wolves, though with his side losing three of their last four games, they are certainly for the taking.
The head-to-head record is also in Burnley’s favour. The Clarets have lost just one of their last eight meetings against Wolves – winning four of those encounters.
Bearing everything in mind, we’re throwing our weight behind the hosts. Burnley to win this match in the outright market will offer plenty of value.
Under 2.5 goals is another strong option considering this bet has landed in eight of their last 10 meetings.
Team news
Burnley are without Nathan Redmond, Aaron Ramsey and Luca Koleosho for this encounter. Lorenz Assignon is suspended.
There are also doubts over Ameen Al Dakhill and Jordan Beyer.
Wolves, meanwhile, will be missing key players in Hwang Hee-Chan and Pedro Neto. Jean Bellegarde, Matheus Cunha and Craig Dawson are doubts.
