Brentford vs Newcastle tips and predictions: Goals galore in frenetic finale at Gtech

Brentford will look to put on a show at the Gtech one last time as they welcome a Newcastle side pushing for Europe on the final day of the Premier League season (1600 BST).

Brentford’s final game of the Premier League season will see them play host to Newcastle United, with the visitors in need of three points to qualify for Europe.

There are a handful of scenarios that see the Toon book themselves on another European tour, but none involve losing on Sunday.

A draw would mean Man United have to win at Brighton, while a win guarantees a top-seven finish. That may be enough, but Eddie Howe’s side can claim sixth if Chelsea lose.

Thomas Frank’s side can enjoy the final day after picking up 10 points through five matches to avoid an uncomfortable final-day showdown.

They’ve also rediscovered their resilience at home, holding Chelsea, Man Utd, Brighton and Fulham, as well as beating Sheffield United.

Newcastle’s motivation may seem like it gives them the edge in this fixture, but Brentford won’t roll over. We also have to consider the visitor’s away form.

They’ve lost nine and won four of their last 11 away matches. Injuries have been a factor in that, and Anthony Gordon’s potential absence would be a real blow.

The Premier League tends to throw up some wild results on the final day, so we’ll avoid picking a winner, but the potential for goals is clear.

Newcastle’s last five matches have produced 18 goals with both teams scoring. It wasn’t long ago Brentford produced a similar run with 30 goals scored in seven home games and both teams finding the net in each.

Team news

Josh Dasilva, Rico Henry, Aaron Hickey and Ben Mee are ruled out.

Neal Maupay and Frank Onyeka are expected to return, while Nathan Collins is 50/50.

Anthony Gordon is touch and go for Sunday, while Callum Wilson is currently recovering from an illness.

Sven Botman, Jamaal Lascelles, Sandro Tonali, Joe Willock, Tino Livramento, Lewis Miley and Matt Target are expected to miss out.
