Banfield vs River Plate tips: Los Millonarios can end winless away run and enhance leader status

River Plate will be intent on continuing their strong start to the season when they take on Banfield on Monday night.

With 13 victories from 18 games to their name, River Plate sit top of the league in Argentina. They could further enhance their position with a victory against struggling Banfield.

Date, KO time and TV coverage

Primera Division, Monday, June 12, Kick-off 11.15pm BST, not televised in the UK

Predicted score

Banfield 1-2 River Plate

Suggested bets

River Plate to win

One goal winning margin

Key stats

River Plate are winless in five away games
Banfield are the joint-lowest goalscorers in the league
River Plate have won three of the last four head-to-head meetings

Verdict

River Plate will be full of beans following an impressive 2-0 victory over Fluminense last Thursday - a result which significantly boosted the club's hopes of making the Copa Libertadores knockout stages.
Manager Enzo Francescoli will hope that the success against the Brazilian side will lead to some much-needed consistency.
River Plate haven't won back-to-back games since late April. In fact, they've only won three of their last eight outings.
Despite that run of form, the league leaders will be big favourites for their short trip to Banfield.
El Taladro are third-bottom in the standings having won four of their 19 games in the competition.
Banfield are also the joint-lowest goalscorers in the division, finding the back of the net a mere 12 times.
The only question mark ahead of Monday's encounter is whether River Plate can finally end their poor run of results away from home.
Francescoli's men are winless in five matches on the road, losing twice and drawing three of those outings.
River Plate's last away win came against Newells Old Boys in mid-April, though they will be encouraged by the fact they won three of their last four trips to Banfield.
Bearing all that in mind, our recommendation is to back the league leaders to seal an important win in Buenos Aires.
