Aston Villa vs Tottenham tips and predictions: Goals galore at Villa Park

It’s hard to imagine this Super Sunday curtain-raiser between Aston Villa and Tottenham Hotspur being anything other than a goal-filled thriller (1300 GMT).

Aston Villa have rediscovered their best form with four wins in five Premier League matches but that will be tested when Tottenham Hotspur visit Villa Park.

Ange Postecoglou’s road warriors have lost two of 12 on their travels this season and both were in bizarre and uncharacteristic circumstances.

Spurs’ ability to score in bunches has made them a threat to any team. They've scored two or more in 10 of 12 and went toe to toe with Man City in a 3-3 draw.

Tottenham are in a confident mood again having scored two or more in four of their last five and picking up a crucial three points against Crystal Palace last weekend.

Villa Park have become accustomed to seeing their side pick up all three points but the Villans have dropped three of four on home soil.

The biggest driver is the drop-off in defence. Villa conceded 10 in 14 across all competitions until December 22 but since then, they’ve allowed 12 in five.

Burnley and Nottingham Forest are among the teams to have bagged a brace and although Unai Emery’s side were back on the winning trail last weekend, they made it harder than need be.

They raced into a commanding 3-0 lead by the 40th minute but quick-fire goals either side of half-time from Moussa Niakhite and Morgan Gibbs-White left Villa Park on the edge of its seat.

Given both of these sides' recent record and Villa being the wearier time after travelling to face Ajax on Thursday, you’d expect all trends to continue.
