Best bets

Both teams to score at 4/5

Match winning margin one goal at 29/20

Paul Pogba to score anytime at 17/4

Two games, two defeats, two goals conceded and none scored. It's fair to say that on paper, Wolverhampton have got off to a bit of a stinker.

But then again, results can be misleading - especially this early into the new season.

Bruno Lage's men lost 1-0 to Leicester in their opening game. That's despite creating numerous goalscoring opportunities away at the King Power Stadium.

The same could be said about their 1-0 defeat to Tottenham last weekend. Wolves had 25 attempts on goal and completely dominated proceedings at Molineux. Nevertheless, they came away without any points.

Wolves are playing an exciting brand of soccer and many fans are optimistic about this season despite those early setbacks.

With that in mind, Manchester United will certainly need to have their guard up when they make the trip to Wolverhampton.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's men thrashed Leeds in their season opener but could only follow it up with a 1-1 draw against Southampton.

The news about Cristiano Ronaldo resigning will have undoubtedly give the side a major boost. Question is, are they still fully focused on the job at hand or have the transfer market theatrics interspersed their matchday preparations?

This promises to be a close encounter and our tip in the betting is to back both teams to score.

Last three matches

Wolves 1-2 Man United (Premier League - May 23, 2021)
Manchester United came out victorious on their last trip to Molineux.
Anthony Elanga opened the scoring in the 13th minute before Nelson Semedo fired back for Wolves.
Moments before the half-time whistle, United were awarded a penalty and Juan Mata made no mistakes from the spot.
United held on to their lead and took all three points back to Old Trafford.
Man United 1-0 Wolves (Premier League - December 29, 2020)
The two clubs endured another close contest when they last met at Old Trafford back in 2020.

Marcus Rashford scored the winning goal in the third minute of stoppage time as the visitors returned home empty handed.

Man United 0-0 Wolves (Premier League - February 1, 2020)
On this occasion there was no late drama as the two teams played out a goalless draw.
Man United dominated possession but failed to find the winning touch on a drab February night.

Last ten head-to-heads

Wolves wins: 2
Draws: 4
Man United wins: 4
Wolves goals: 7
Man United goals: 13

Have Wolves overcome their goal issues?

You wait two games for a goal and four come along at once.
After failing to find the net in their opening two Premier League games, Wolves took out their frustrations on Nottingham Forest, winning 4-0 in the Carabao Cup.
Lage's men bagged all four goals in the second-half to build some much-needed confidence ahead of the game with Manchester United.

However, considering the style of play implemented by Lage, sooner or later the goals were always going to come.

Wolves seemed a little lethargic and drained of ideas under Nuno Santo last season. But that is certainly not the case under Lage who enjoys going on the front foot, playing an offensive style of soccer.

Chance to quash 'inconsistency' critics

Manchester United lost just as many games as Manchester City last season but still finished 12 points behind the eventual champions.

The difference maker is the amount of draws that United succumbed to during the 2020/21 season.
Solskjaer's side drew 11 games on the way to finishing second in the Premier League.
Last weekend's draw with Southampton would suggest that lessons were not learned. Inconsistency cost the Red Devils a title challenge last season and the same could happen this year if they're not careful.

This, however, is an opportunity for Solskjaer and his men to show otherwise. A win against this dangerous Wolves side would certainly be a good way to finish the month before the international break.

Goalscorer bets

If the home side are to take something from this game, one man who we expect to contribute is Adama Traore.
In two games the Spaniard has had ten shots on goal but he's yet to get off the mark.

The ball is continuously looking for him and at 11/5 he's well priced to score anytime.

From a Manchester United perspective, it's Bruno Fernandes who leads the way in the same market at 6/5.

However, our tip is to back Paul Pogba at around the 17/4 mark. The player has started the season like a house on fire, producing five assists in two games.

The Frenchman will get on the scoresheet sooner or later and at his current price, he's worth backing.
