Mo Salah vs Jamie Vardy - who should you back in the goalscorer markets?

Mohamed Salah and Jamie Vardy are the early pacesetters in the race for the Premier League’s Golden Boot. But who should you back to top the goalscoring charts come the end of the season?

Any debate about the Premier League's best strikers shouldn't be taken seriously if Salah and Vardy are not at its forefront.

Between them, the pair have won three Golden Boots, two Premier League titles and scored 217 goals... and counting.

Both men have already bagged six goals this season and both are likely to feature in the Golden Boot conversation come the end of the campaign.

With that in mind, the question at hand is simple - who is the better man to back in the betting?

Top goalscorer market

Following his heroics against Manchester City last weekend, Salah's price in the top goalscorer market has shortened from 3/1 to 5/2.

The Egyptian international currently tops the market, sitting above Romelu Lukaku (11/4), Cristiano Ronaldo (3/1) and the aforementioned Vardy who has been priced at 12/1.

Salah's goal against the Cityzens has moved him top of the Premier League's top goalscorer rankings. But the league isn't the only competition in which the forward has thrived in.

Mohamed Salah, hattrick, Liverpool, Watford, Premier League

The 29-year-old has scored in seven successive competitive outings for Liverpool - including a double over FC Porto and one against AC Milan in the Champions League.

Salah has already won the Golden Boot twice during his time in England; claiming the award in 2017/18 and 2018/19.

With the player in red hot form, it's fair to say that his recent price drop in the betting is fully justified.

Vardy may be a long way back on 12/1 but he cannot be underestimated.

Despite bagging 15 league goals last season, many still considered that total a slump in form - a flattering compliment if you ask us.

Nevertheless, the 34-year-old has got off to flying start on this occasion, bagging six goals and producing one assist in his opening seven Premier League games.

Leicester City's Jamie Vardy celebrates after scoring against Crystal Palace

What's more, the former England international has bagged goals in three successive league games - scoring against BrightonBurnley and Crystal Palace.

If that wasn't enough, Vardy recently became only the second player in Premier League history to score 90 goals after the age of 30. Ian Wright, who was the first, ended up with 93 - a total which the Foxes forward is expected to surpass sooner rather than later.

While Leicester City may be out of form, their frontman certainly isn't. And with the Foxes bound to improve as this campaign rolls on, Vardy could be a viable longshot selection in the top goalscorer market.

First to ten market

The battle to double digits could be as thrilling as the one for the Golden Boot.

Salah and Vardy are in pole position thanks to their early goal hauls, but a run of tricky fixtures for both Liverpool and Leicester makes this a very interesting market.

The Reds take on Watford, Man United, Brighton, West Ham and Arsenal after the international break - all of whom could prove tricky opposition for Salah.

Mohamed Salah, Liverpool, Ibrahima Konate, Premier League

The Foxes, on the other hand, will face Man United, Brentford, Arsenal, Leeds and Chelsea - not exactly a walk in the park for Vardy.

As things stand, Salah leads the way in the market at 11/4 while Vardy is currently second at 4/1.

From a value perspective, the Englishman certainly offers a lot of it. However, considering Salah is seemingly unstoppable at the moment, the Egyptian is the more realistic option.

Goal contributions market

Salah may have scored nine goals in all competitions this season but he must also take some credit for creating three assists.

Vardy only has one assist to his name this season and it's no surprise to see a big gap between the two men in the goal contributions market.

With the season still in its early stages, it's hard to draw too many conclusions.

Instead, career totals may prove more helpful with Vardy managing 39 career assists while his counterpart currently sits on 37.

Nevertheless, it's the Liverpool forward who leads the way with Planet Sport Bet. Vardy, meanwhile, is sixth on the list at the current price of 11/1.
