Xavi: Gavi is the 'heart' of Barcelona

Xavi was pleased with the performance of several Barcelona players during their commanding 5-0 victory over Real Betis, but he had special praise for Gavi.

Joao Felix and Joao Cancelo both notched their debut goals for the club, to the delight of the head coach. In addition to their exploits, consistent displays were put in by players such as Jules Kounde and Frenkie de Jong.

One player who quietly played a significant role in the victory was Gavi. Despite not directly contributing to any of the goals, the 19-year-old made a substantial impact.

Xavi was effusive in his praise for Gavi, as reported by MD. He emphasised Gavi's importance as a key figure within the Barcelona side.

"Gavi is the heart of the team, he is a fundamental player," said Xavi.

"Many said that he was going to play less this season, but he is an exemplary footballer."

Gavi seemed to thrive in a midfield role against Betis, a position he hasn't frequently occupied in the past year.

With Joao Felix establishing himself on the left wing for Barcelona, this might open the door for Gavi to play more regularly in his preferred position.
