Xavi: Barcelona didn't plan Vitor Roque's January arrival

Barcelona's manager, Xavi Hernandez, has weighed in on the ongoing debate surrounding Vitor Roque's playing time and contract status.

The 19-year-old Brazilian talent, whose contract expires this summer, has been a topic of discussion due to his limited game time despite a substantial transfer fee.

Speaking to the media ahead of Barcelona's upcoming match against Almeria, Xavi defended Roque's development, stating that the young player is still growing and that he doesn't understand the criticism regarding his lack of minutes on the pitch.

"That's how we planned it. We hadn't planned for him coming so soon, we planned it for the summer, so he could continue learning as a player," said Xavi.

"Then we decided it was for the best for the club and for him, we had the chance to bring him in because of the injuries to Gavi and Balde, so that he could train, get to know the club and his teammates, and then compete with his teammates.

"The debate, for me, I don't understand it. He is learning.

"There are footballers ahead of him, who are in better conditions, and that is why he plays less. These things have happened all my life."

The uncertainty surrounding Roque's future has intensified, with Xavi reportedly considering a loan move for the player.

However, Roque's agent, Andre Cury, has indicated that if a departure occurs, it would likely be on a permanent basis.

Discussions between Sporting Director Deco and Cury are scheduled to take place in the coming weeks to address this matter.
