Who will win the 2024 PFA Player of the Year award?

Last year, Erling Haaland won the PFA Player of the Year award for the first time at a canter, but will he be the favourite to win it again in 2024?

The 2023/24 Premier League season has had it all; a three-way title fight, a race for top four and multiple point deductions.

There have also been many star performers in the likes of Rodri, Declan Rice, Mohamed Salah, Phil Foden and many more.

Planet Sport takes a look at the bookies’ favourites to be crowned this year’s PFA Player of the Year. It's a race that appears to be wide open with a handful of games left.

(Stats are correct as of article publication)

Rodri

It is no secret that without Rodri, Manchester City struggle as the Spanish midfielder is unbeaten in his last 65 games in all competitions.

Rodri has featured 28 times for City in the Premier League, scoring seven goals and providing seven assists.

His best performance was in a 3-0 win over Burnley, where he scored and assisted in a man of the match display.

If City win the title, Rodri could win the award as he has been their most consistent performer this season.

Rodri’s odds of winning the PFA Player of the Year priced are around 3/1..

Phil Foden

Foden has had an impressive campaign, scoring 14 times and assisting seven goals in the Premier League this season.

His best games came in the 3-1 derby day win over Man United, where he took charge of the match after scoring twice to put City into the lead and his hat-trick in the recent 4-1 win over Aston Villa.

In what has arguably been his best season so far, Foden has a great chance at winning the award.

He has been his side’s best contributor after Haaland and has been awarded man of the match seven times in the Premier League this season.

Foden’s odds of winning the PFA Player of the Year priced at 5/2.

Declan Rice

Rice joined Arsenal for over £100m in the summer and has been one of the signings of the season so far.

He has featured in all of Arsenal’s 31 games so far this season, scoring six times and assisting six goals.

His best game was against his former club West Ham, assisting twice and scoring the last goal in a 6-0 win.

With Arsenal in a close title race, Rice has a decent chance at winning the award as he has been key performer for his side, consistently running the show in Arsenal’s midfield.

Rice’s odds of winning the PFA Player of the Year priced at 6/1.

Virgil van Dijk

Van Dijk has had another great season for Liverpool, appearing 29 times for the club scoring twice and assisting twice.

He has had eight clean sheets this season, conceding 30 times in the league’s second best defence.

His best game was against Sheffield United, where he scored in a 2-0 victory.

Van Dijk could win the award as Liverpool are still in the race to win the title and the Dutchman is one of the reasons why.

Van Dijk’s odds of winning the PFA Player of the Year priced at 12/1.

Mohamed Salah

Another key performer for Liverpool, Salah is the league’s third best goalscorer with 17 goals and nine assists in 25 Premier League games.

His best game was against Newcastle United, scoring twice and bagging an assist in a 4-2 victory.

Salah could win the award as he has had such a huge impact despite playing fewer games than the other contenders.

His odds of winning the PFA Player of the Year priced at 12/1.

Bukayo Saka

Arsenal’s superstar Saka has had a great season, scoring 14 times and assisting eight goals in the Premier League so far.

His best game came against West Ham in a man of the match performance, where he scored two of Arsenal’s six goals against The Hammers.

Saka could win the award as he is Arsenal’s top goalscorer in the league and top provider.

Saka’s odds of winning the PFA Player of the Year priced at 12/1.

Erling Haaland

It was always going to be a tough ask for Haaland to repeat last season’s record breaking 36 goals in 35 Premier League games.

The current PFA Player of the Year holder is the league’s top goalscorer but with just 19 goals in 25 games.

It has still been a great season for the Norwegian as he could have a shot at defending his title as Player of the Year if City go on to win the league and he wins the Golden Boot.

Haaland’s odds of winning the PFA Player of the Year priced at 16/1.

The dark horses

Taking a look at some of the long shots to win the award, we believe Ollie Watkins (100/1), Cole Palmer (33/1) and Jarrod Bowen (250/1) have an outside chance at winning. If they have a phenomenal end to the season.

Watkins has been on fire this season scoring 18 times and assisting 10 times, Palmer has thrived at Chelsea with 16 goals and Bowen has scored 15 times for West Ham.

The best chance at a long shot is Watkins, who has been Aston Villa’s star man in their fight for Champions League football next season.

Watkins’s odds of winning the PFA Player of the Year priced at 100/1.
