Who are the best last goalscorers in the Premier League?

Whether it’s scoring a late winner, a last-gasp equaliser or just a mere consolation, some players just have a knack of being the last player to find the back of the net in a Premier League game.

When football fans think of iconic late goals that have been scored in the Premier League era, the likes of Sergio Aguero against Queens Park Rangers and Steve Bruce against Sheffield Wednesday may immediately spring to mind.

But which current PL players have often provided the fans with some late drama and can help you land that last goalscorer bet?

Let’s take a look at the top 10 current Premier League players who seem to enjoy scoring the final goal in the latter stages of games.

10. Kai Havertz

The German has been far from a prolific goalscorer since coming to the Premier League in 2020 but he does have it in him to score important late goals for his team.

Havertz has scored the last goal in a game after the 80th minute on five occasions in his three-and-a-half seasons in England’s top-flight. Three for Chelsea and two for Arsenal.

To make matters even sweeter for the 24-year-old is that three of these five late goals have been winners.

9. Tomas Soucek

Since joining the Hammers from Slavia Prague, the Czech Republic international has often proven to be a handful for Premier League defences especially with the threat that he possesses in the air and on the deck.

The midfielder has scored 25 times in 141 league appearances for the East London outfit and five of those have been the last goal in a game after the 80th minute.

Even better for Soucek and West Ham, four of them have turned out to be winning goals including two so far in this campaign against Nottingham Forest and Burnley.

8. Danny Welbeck

Many will associate a late Welbeck goal with his last-gasp winner for Arsenal against Leicester City back in February 2016. But the 33-year-old forward has netted six times after the 80-minute mark for the Seagulls since arriving at the Amex Stadium in 2020.

It also happens that three of the six have come within the last year including one just before Christmas when he scored the equaliser in Brighton’s 1-1 draw away to their bitter rivals Crystal Palace.

7. Dominic Calvert-Lewin

One of the players who has been crucial in the Toffees retaining their Premier League status despite their struggles in the last couple of seasons.

While it has admittedly been a while since Calvert-Lewin scored the final goal of a league game beyond the 80th-minute mark, he has still done this on six occasions since the beginning of the 2020/21 campaign.

6. Erling Haaland

He may have been playing in the Premier League for just a season and a bit of time, but it’s Haaland so we should not be surprised that he appears in a goal-scoring list.

The Norwegian only arrived in England just over 18 months ago and to say he has taken the top-flight by storm would be an understatement after netting 50 times in just 50 appearances for City up to this point.

In terms of his record when it comes to being the last player to score in a game after the 80th minute, the former Borussia Dortmund forward has already done this a total of six times.

5. Marcus Rashford

The Red Devils’ Academy graduate has been very inconsistent when it comes to goal-scoring in recent seasons but has still netted a total of 80 Premier League goals since breaking into the first team in early 2016.

Like Calvert-Lewin, this is not something Rashford has been doing regularly in recent times but in the last five years, the 26-year-old has scored the last goal in a game after the 80th minute on seven occasions.

4. Ollie Watkins

The 28-year-old forward has been Villa’s main goal-scorer since joining the club in the summer of 2020 and especially since Unai Emery took charge just over 14 months ago.

It also turns out that Watkins is no stranger to scoring late goals and being the last player to find the back of the net in a game.

The former Exeter City and Brentford man has scored the final goal in a Premier League game after the 80th minute on a total of seven occasions in the past three-and-a-half years with four of them coming in the last nine months.

3. Diogo Jota

He may have had his injury problems but when he is fit, the Portuguese forward always seems to pop up with a goal so it's not a shock that he is so high up in this particular statistic.

Jota has bagged 54 goals in 158 appearances during his time playing in England’s top-flight with both Wolverhampton Wanderers and Liverpool. Out of these goals, eight of them have been the final goal of the game after the 80th minute.

Seven of the eight have been for Jurgen Klopp’s Reds and two of them have come this season in victories against West Ham and Burnley.

2. Yoane Wissa

The DR Congo international seems to really enjoy scoring late on in games. He has scored the final goal in a league match after the 80th minute on eight occasions since joining the Bees after their promotion to the Premier League back in 2021 even though none of them have come in 2023/24 campaign up to this point.

The former Lorient man scored the final goal in a game with 10 or less minutes remaining on the clock four times in both the 2021/22 and 2022/23 seasons but only one of them turned out to be a winning goal which came in a 2-1 triumph against West Ham United at the London Stadium in October 2021.

1. Mohamed Salah

It should come as absolutely no surprise to anyone that the Egyptian forward is top of a list that has something to do with scoring goals.

Since arriving at Anfield in 2017, Salah has scored 153 times in the Premier League and is showing no signs of slowing down.

With such incredible goal-scoring numbers, it is understandable that 12 of his many league goals have been the last goal in a game from 80 minutes onwards, including twice this campaign in home victories over Everton and Newcastle United.
