What position does Erik ten Hag need to improve most at Manchester United?

There's no denying that Erik ten Hag will make a number of changes to Manchester United's squad in the summer transfer window, but what positions will he prioritise?

With rumours of a £120million budget for Erik ten Hag this summer, speculation has already begun regarding who the Dutchman could bring to Old Trafford.
There's bound to be a number of players leaving the club in the summer, with Jesse Lingard, Edinson Cavani and Paul Pogba just a few of the names expected to depart.
That could open up even more funds for Ten Hag to splash in the summer, but who is the 52-year-old eyeing up and what positions are top of his priority list?
Planet Sport's Graeme looks at the best and most likely options to arrive under the Dutchman...

Goalkeeper

Sam Johnstone is a Manchester United transfer target
Yes, a new goalkeeper is likely to come in under Ten Hag - that is not to say that David De Gea is going anywhere any time soon, but they are looking for a new back-up.

England goalkeeper Dean Henderson looks to be on his way and the club are trying to bring Sam Johnstone - a former United academy product - back to the club.

Johnstone, currently at West Bromwich Albion, is set to be available on a free transfer - although interest is high with Tottenham and West Ham both looking too.

Defence

Pau Torres is a Man Utd transfer target
As with much of United's transfer work, it could depend on who actually leaves in the summer- but a new central defender looks a a real possibility and if that is the case, the club's scouts have been doing their work in the last few months.
The player who appears top of United's list is Villarreal's Pau Torres, who has been on the club's radar for the past 12 months.
The Spanish international has been outstanding for the Yellow Submarines and has helped them to the last four of the Champions League.
United will hope to make room with the likes of Phil Jones, Eric Bailly, Victor Lindelof and current captain Harry Maguire all possibly available to move.
One current Ajax player who is also believed to be on United's radar is Jurrien Timber. He can play anywhere across the backline and full-back is another real area of concern for the club.
Luke Shaw is likely to stay, but that aside - Alex Telles, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Diogo Dalot could easily be on their way out of the club.

Midfield

The midfield department has long been an area of concern for United's fanbase if nothing else. Paul Pogba and Jesse Lingard will be departing, that is known...whilst the axis of Fred and Scott McTominay - McFred as it is christened - looks unlikely to have a long-term future.
Could Donny van de Beek play a part? Possibly. But at least one big name signing is expected.
United are known to be very keen on Declan Rice, but will the Red Devils break their club record this summer? If they want the West Ham and England superstar, then that is exactly what they are going to have to do.
Wolves' Ruben Neves is another player they like a lot and leading agent Jorge Mendes is no stranger to getting deals done at Old Trafford.

Forwards

Antony is a Man Utd target for 2022/23
The long-term future of Marcus Rashford is in doubt, Edinson Cavani is bound to move away, and Cristiano Ronaldo's future is up in the air - a new forward is a must this summer
With Ten Hag likely to return to Ajax in the summer on a shopping spree, one of his current stars that could follow him to Old Trafford is Brazilian winger Antony.
Able to play either on the left or right, his versatility is backed up by an abundance of talent, making him one of the biggest prospects in Europe.
Liverpool are another club following Antony, but the lure of working with his current boss Ten Hag could be a huge factor.
However, that hardly ticks the centre-forward box, and Ralf Rangnick has already talked about the club's desire to bring in a new young striker.
It is believed the leading candidate to come in is Cavani's compatriot Darwin Nunez. United have been watching the Benfica front-man closely for a number of weeks and Cavani is understood to have delivered a glowing reference.
Ten Hag also knows Nunez well as he scored the goal for Benfica which saw Ajax eliminated from the Champions League earlier this season.
