West Ham join race for Atalanta midfielder Ruslan Malinovskyi, but he really wants to join Spurs

West Ham could lock horns with London rivals Tottenham Hotspur over the signing of Atalanta midfielder Ruslan Malinovskyi.

According to reports in the Italian media West Ham have now entered the hunt for the 29-year-old Ukraine international.

However, a huge fee of nearly £30million has been slapped on the player by the Italian side, which at 29 years old and with no Premier League experience could be too much of a punt for West Ham, especially given the lowly the position the club currently lie in.

West Ham appear to be frantically shopping for midfielders with Thomas Soucek suffering a terrible slump in form, Conor Coventry failing to impress in his one start so far this season, while David Moyes has already demanded more from new signing Flynn Downes.

Even Declan Rice has been on the receiving end of some social media abuse for his performances this season. Not that anyone wearing claret and blue has performed well in the Premier League this season.

Spurs are also reportedly sniffing around the dead-ball specialist, but have not made a bid, however it is actually French club Marseille that are leading the chase.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has already stated the lure of playing Champions League football at Spurs is a big draw.
"It's true that Ruslan Malinovskyi dreams of Tottenham," he said.
"He would love to join Tottenham, so on player side the message is pretty clear. But the only club that's made an official proposal to Atalanta is Marseille.
"A swap deal with Cengiz Under. But Atalanta's side it's a no to current conditions. So no agreement with Marseille as of now, let's see if Tottenham will decide to jump in."
