Tottenham can challenge title rivals and win a trophy admits former England international

Premier League winner and former England international Joleon Lescott has backed Tottenham to have a competitive season following a busy transfer window.

Antonio Conte's men have strengthened throughout the summer after landing seven new signings.

Ivan Perisic, Fraser Forster, Yves Bissouma and Richarlison are among the names to have arrived in North London as Spurs look to build on their fourth-placed finish last season.

"They've made some really astute signings and they have a manager of the highest level," said Lescott.
"I think they've brought in a different level of balance to their team. In order to sustain momentum and put pressure on the top two or three teams, or be title challengers, they needed to strengthen their squad and team and they've done that.
"With what they've done in the transfer window, and who they already have in their team and with their manager, it probably wouldn't be a surprise if they go on to win something."
Winning a trophy will be one of the top priorities for Conte as he looks to end the club's 14-year dry spell without silverware.

Spurs last lifted gold back in 2008 after claiming the League Cup with a 2-1 win over Chelsea at Wembley.

Since then, the club have made a number of finals - including the Champions League - but have so far failed to get across the finishing line.

Closing the gap to Manchester City and Liverpool will also be one of Conte's top tasks this year. While his men did secure a top-four finish, they were still a massive 21 points behind the Reds and 22 adrift of the champions.
