Tottenham turn their attention to the Europa League duties this Thursday night as they host Bodo/Glimt in the first leg of a tasty semi-final (2000 GMT).

Spurs endured yet another punch to the stomach over the weekend as a 5-1 defeat to Liverpool at Anfield condemned them to a fifth Premier League defeat in six games.

Ange Postecoglou’s men have long since given up on their domestic goals, which has been made evident by their string of depressing results.

Instead, Tottenham are putting all their eggs into the Europa League basket as they look to end their 16-year trophy drought and secure Champions League qualification for next season.

Winning the European competition would save the season for Spurs, but going all the way is certainly a lot easier said than done.

Thursday’s challenge for Tottenham is a home first leg clash against Norwegian outfit Bodo/Glimt. On paper, Spurs should dominate this tie considering their vast amount of resources they have at their disposal. In reality, this could be a lot trickier than most anticipate.

Superlaget have already beaten big European clubs this season, including Porto, Braga, Besiktas and, most recently, Lazio.

Even Manchester United struggled against the Norwegian side, with the Red Devils claiming a 3-2 victory in front of a packed Old Trafford.

The goal for Tottenham in this opening leg is to build a healthy advantage ahead of their return to Norway – something everyone has struggled with this season.

In the knockout stage alone, Lazio, Olympiacos and Twente all faced defeats away in Bodo, which is a town so close to the Arctic circle that it still experiences snow in late April.

With Tottenham out of form but needing a big result, Bodo/Glimt will be looking to upset the odds as they make the trip to London for Thursday’s tasty encounter.

The pressure is firmly on Tottenham to be proactive and attempt to build a healthy lead ahead of the potentially freezing second leg.

Considering the London club are putting all their chips on this competition, there is no going back – they simply have to succeed.

Bodo/Glimt won’t be an easy nut to crack, despite the apparent gulf in quality. The Norwegian side have picked up some impressive results in Europe this season and they won’t have much fear of Spurs.

However, we’re siding with the Premier League outfit in this opening leg. This competition offers Tottenham their only chance at saving their season and their desperation is likely to bring the best out of them.

With that in mind, Tottenham to win and both teams to score are our two opening bets.

We’re adding Dominic Solanke to the acca in the 1+ shots on target market. The striker scored two goals in his last three appearances for Spurs and is one of the few men in decent form.

With Tottenham expected to be dominant in this opening leg, we’re also backing Bodo/Glimt goalkeeper Nikita Haikin to make 4+ saves.
