In the lead-up to their Bundesliga clash against Hoffenheim, Bayern Munich coach Thomas Tuchel is confident that his team have made a significant leap forward during the winter break.
With a keen eye on securing their 12th consecutive league title, Bayern, currently sitting second, are poised to navigate a trio of home games, starting with Hoffenheim, aiming to close down the four-point gap behind leaders Bayer Leverkusen.
Tuchel, speaking at a press conference, outlined his team's areas for improvement, emphasizing their prowess in the opposition half and counter-pressing. He remarked, "We've got a very high level but still have room for improvement in the opposition half and in counter-pressing. I've got the impression that we've taken a step forward in the last week." The boss set a clear objective for the remainder of the season, expressing their ambition to be champions once again.
Post the Hoffenheim fixture, Bayern are set for a four-day training camp in Portugal, a move Tuchel believes will enhance the squad's overall performance. Delighted about the prospect of training in warm conditions, Tuchel stated, "I like training camps with warm temperatures. You can spend more time together." He highlighted the advantage of avoiding extreme cold, reducing the risk of injuries and illnesses, and enabling focused double daily training sessions.
The signing of Eric Dier from Tottenham on loan adds a layer of excitement to Bayern's narrative. Tuchel sees Dier as a valuable addition, praising his versatility, "He is a good alternative for the squad. Eric has become a specialist at centre-back. He can play either centre-back position and in a back three."
Despite Tuchel's anticipation, he remains pragmatic about the complexities of the transfer business. Reflecting on the intricacies, he acknowledged, "Patience isn't my greatest virtue. Every coach wants to have all their players from the first day, but that will never happen." He affirmed that the club is working diligently, not only on transfers but also on other fronts to meet their ambitious goals.
