Sunderland complete signing of Australian youth international

Nectarios Triantis has arrived at The Stadium of Light following his move from Central Coast Mariners.

Defender Nectarios Triantis has become Sunderland's second signing of the summer following Hemir, who arrived from Benfica towards the end of last week.

The Australian made 26 appearances for the Central Coast Mariners in their A-league-winning campaign last season. He has also featured for both the Under-20 and Under-23 Socceroos.

The 20-year-old has moved to the North-East in a reported £300,000 transfer, signing a four-year contract. He will join compatriot Bailey Wright on Wearside.

Speaking after his arrival, Triantis said: "I'm buzzing to be here - I just can't wait to get started and play in front of the fans at this historic stadium.

"When a massive club like Sunderland comes in, you can never say no. It was a dream to have won the league with Central Coast Mariners, but now I hope to enjoy similar success with Sunderland."

Meanwhile, Sunderland Sporting Director Kristjaan Speakman spoke of his delight at the signing.
He added: "Nectar's progressed rapidly over the last 12 months - at both club and international level - and we are delighted that he selected Sunderland as his next step.
"On the pitch, and in possession, we feel he's well aligned to our playing identity, whilst also possessing the balance of being a robust defender, which is vital in our league.
"We'll be patient as he adjusts to new surroundings and adapts to a new style of play in a higher league, but we are confident that he's got the personality to progress and develop his game."
Sunderland will be aiming for promotion this season after crashing out of the Championship play-offs at the semi-final stage.
