Ousmane Dembele in action for France during the UEFA Nations League

One of the great international rivalries will be reignited this Thursday night as Spain and France square off for a spot in the UEFA Nations League final (2000 BST).

Following PSG’s historic Champions League victory, it’s fair to say that the French are on somewhat of a footballing high.

One man who isn’t feeling as enthusiastic is Inter Milan’s Marcus Thuram, who trended after his awkward reunion with PSG’s Ousmane Dembele in the French camp – much to the entertainment of Kylian Mbappe.

Putting aside club rivalries, France will be driven by their thirst for silverware. Having reached the World Cup final and Euros semis in recent years, Les Bleus are determined to quash their ‘nearly men’ reputation.

Fortunately for the national side, there is a growing feeling of confidence around them – something that stems from the ridiculous amount of talent in their squad.

Just looking at their forward line, Didier Deschamps has the likes of Dembele, Bradley Barcola, Desire Doue and Michael Olise at his disposal. We have somehow got to a point where even captain Kylian Mbappe isn’t assured a spot in the starting line-up.

For all the positives in the French camp, defending Nations League champions Spain will not be intimidated.

The Spaniards are in the midst of an 18-match unbeaten run, with 15 of those ending in victories.

La Roja boss Luis de la Fuente has made some interesting squad selections for this upcoming international break – including the return of Isco for the first time since 2019 – but it’s fair to say that the Spaniards are still a force to be reckoned with.

Both nations were involved in quarter-final thrillers and all the neutrals will be hoping for that to continue.

Here, we take a closer look at Thursday’s tasty semi-final clash in Stuttgart, picking out some of the best bets along the way.

Spain have reached the final of the previous two Nations League tournaments, but we’re backing France to prevent a hat-trick.

With the French flying high following their Champions League success, we expect Les Bleus to reap benefits of that win.

Spain conceded five goals in their two legs against Netherlands in the quarter-final. In fact, they have failed to keep a single clean sheet in their last four outings.

Considering the vast array of attacking talent in the French side, we’re backing the Deschamps and his men to open up their rivals.

Looking at the betting, we’re backing a French win, both teams to score and over 5.5 match corners.

In terms of specific player tips, we are backing Dembele to score or assist. The Frenchman boasts five goal contributions in his last six games – including two assists in the Champions League final.
