Soccer tips: Chelsea vs Brighton - Seagulls can frustrate Blues at the Bridge

After dropping 11 points from their last seven games, Chelsea have fallen behind in the title race. A win over Brighton would put the Blues back on track but the Seagulls won’t simply roll over.

If Thomas Tuchel's men are to keep up pace with Manchester City, the Blues can't afford too many slip ups. However, with Brighton boasting one of the strongest defences in the league, Chelsea could be in for a tricky evening.
Graham Potter's men have only lost four Premier League games this season and currently sit ninth in the table. What's more, they're coming into this game on the back of a solid 2-0 win over Brentford.

Best bets for Chelsea vs Brighton

Both teams to score at 11/10

Over 3.5 match goals WAS 9/4, NOW 5/2

Jorginho to score anytime at 14/5

With one victory from 12 league games, Brighton might not seem like a major threat. But don't be fooled by stats, they can be misleading.
The Seagulls might not be winning games but they do have the fifth best defensive record in the Premier League.

Graham Potter's side have conceded just 17 goals this season - that's five more than Man City, four more than Chelsea, three more than Wolves and two more than Liverpool. Not bad.

The Blues can expect a tough encounter on Wednesday but considering their growing points gap to the league leaders, they simply can't afford to fail.

With that in mind, you can rest assured that Tuchel's men will come out swinging as they look to make a statement.

Bearing in mind that five of the last six games have seen the both teams to score bet land at Stamford Bridge, we're backing that same bet again ahead of Brighton's visit.

The Seagulls scored twice against Brentford on Boxing Day and they've already proved they can find the net against the big boys having netted against both Liverpool and Man City earlier in the season.

Last time out

Chelsea 0-0 Brighton (Premier League - April 20, 2021)
There's not much we can say about the last time these two sides met.
Chelsea dominated possession in the goalless draw but interestingly it was Brighton who produced more attempts on goal.
One noteworthy moment was Ben White's red card in stoppage time. Despite going down to 10-men, Brighton held on for a point.

Back goal fest despite impressive defence

One similarity between Chelsea and Brighton is that they share an impressive defensive record.
Despite this, a lot of signs are pointing to a goal-happy encounter at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea's last eight games have produced a whopping 27 goals - including four on Boxing Day against Aston Villa.

If that wasn't enough, the over 3.5 goals bet has landed in five of their last nine home games.
Planet Sport Bet have enhanced that same bet which has gone from 9/4 to 5/2.

Last eight Premier League head-to-heads

Chelsea wins: 6

Draws: 2

Brighton wins: 0

Chelsea goals: 17

Brighton goals: 3

Goalscorer bets for Chelsea vs Brighton

If you're looking to back a goalscorer in the Chelsea camp, you're certainly spoilt for choice.

Romelu Lukaku leads the betting at 10/11 while Christian PulisicKai Havertz and Timo Werner are all available at around the 6/4 mark.

However, our pick is a little further down the list. Our selection is to back Jorginho in the anytime goalscorer market at an enticing price of 14/5.

The Italian midfielder has scored five goals in four games and is the club's second highest Premier League scorer this season - behind Mason Mount.

From Brighton's perspective, you simply cannot look past Neal Maupay.
The Frenchman has scored in three straight outings - including a goal against Brentford on Boxing Day.
The bookmakers have priced the 25-year-old at 15/4 to score anytime.
