Revealed: How much will Horsham FC make despite FA Cup defeat to Barnsley

Horsham FC saw their FA Cup journey come to an end on Tuesday night as Barnsley picked up a 3-0 victory in a replay of their first-round clash.

The seventh-tier side forced the replay after holding the League One side to a stunning 3-3 draw away at Oakwell.

With both teams separated by 98 places in the footballing ladder, this was always going to be a massive challenge for Horsham.

However, the added bonus of ITV coverage and a sold-out crowd means the fixture was one of the most high-profile in the club’s history.

When asked whether the club will also benefit financially, chairman Kevin Borrett told Planet Sport: “Considering the expenses, there wasn’t much surplus there [first game with Barnsley].

“We’re expecting the expenses from Friday night in Barnsley to largely match ticket income here because our capacity is obviously half theirs.

“What makes the difference is the TV money. That’s £25,000 from ITV and a further £10,000 from Emirates. The club will collect £35,000. That really does make a difference from our point of view.

“It will give stability for the club and allow us to think about some projects that are on the waiting list.”

When asked about logistical challenges of hosting a fixture of this magnitude, Borrett added: “We thought we started the planning well in advance and were on top of it but I don’t think you can ever plan for a game of this scale.

“The way we’ve addressed that, we’ve got a professional safety officer and they have a team of security professionals. It means the bulk of the work is lifted off the shoulders of our volunteers.

“But the sheer logistics, the number of lorries we’ve had to accommodate, the lighting, the gantry for the six cameras, it is a massive undertaking.”

Horsham will look to shake off their FA Cup exit when they take on Bracknell Town in the FA Trophy on Saturday.

Barnsley, on the other hand, will travel to Bradford City in an EFL Trophy fixture on Tuesday, November 21.
