Real Madrid offer Marco Asensio contract extension with decreased salary - report

Real Madrid have reportedly sent a contract extension offer to attacking midfielder Marco Asensio, but with a decreased salary, according to a recent report published on MARCA.

The offer is said to be around €4million per year, while the player expected to earn €6million per annum after the extension.
This may suggest that the two parties are far from reaching an agreement, and Asensio could become a free agent next summer.
Real Madrid have the upper hand in this negotiation, so it appears unlikely that the club will significantly improve their offer. As a result, Asensio may need to either look for a better deal from another team or lower his demands to stay with the club.
Brahim Diaz has been expected to replace Asensio in the squad if the attacker leaves Madrid in the summer. Diaz has shown consistency during his two-year loan deal in Milan.
According to Football Transfers, Liverpool are said to be interested in signing Asensio, who is a free agent at the end of this season. The Reds are reportedly looking for a player who can play in the number 10 position, and Asensio seems to fit the bill.
Jurgen Klopp's assistant, Pep Lijnders, is said to be a big fan of the winger and is keen on incorporating him into a "dual No.10 system". Asensio is reportedly being considered as a replacement for Brazilian Roberto Firmino, who confirmed his departure from Anfield at the end of the season after eight years.
Asensio, who is 27-years-old, has been with Real Madrid for seven years, making over 260 appearances for the club. It would seem increasingly likely that he will leave the Spanish giants, but the next few months will determine his future.
