Paris Saint-Germain eased out in Champions League betting after drawing Man City

Lionel Messi’s chances of European glory dented by a possible match-up with Ronaldo.

The pairing of Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester City in the Champions League group stages has got everyone licking their lips ahead of a potential match-up between Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.

Keen to leave Juventus, Ronaldo is reportedly sounding out City as a destination, with sources in Italy claiming the Manchester club are willing to commit to a two-year deal for the Portuguese striker.

It sets up the intriguing possibility of the two GOAT contenders going head to head once more in Europe's leading competition and the bookmakers have reacted accordingly.

Planet Sport Bet have eased PSG out to 3/1 from 11/4 following the draw. The Ligue 1 runners-up are also narrow favourites to win Group A at evens, with Manchester City 23/20.

After being drawn in Group H alongside Juventus, Zenit St Petersburg and Malmo, Chelsea saw their odds on retaining the trophy cut from 17/2 from 15/2.

The 2020/21 champions are 4/6 to win the group.

However, they remain fourth favourites in the outright betting behind PSG, Man City and Bayern Munich (7/1).

Borussia Dortmund have also seen some interest after being pitted against Sporting Lisbon, Ajax and Besiktas in Group C.

Marco Rose's side are now 33/1 after being 40s pre-draw.

Planet Sport Bet spokesperson Scott Allen said it was impossible to look past PSG-Man City when it came to the group stages.

"The meeting of the PSG and Manchester City is obviously the headline news but it shouldn't shape the competition as we expect both to come through the group easily," he said.

"You do worry a little more for Liverpool though who have been handed a tough assignment in a group with AC MilanAtletico Madrid and Porto."

The Reds are 9/1 to win back the trophy they last lifted in 2019, while the other English side involved, Manchester United, are 14/1.

United face Europa League conquerors Villarreal, Atalanta and Young Boys in Group F.
