Omar Richards becomes Nottingham Forest's fifth signing of the summer

Nottingham Forest have made their fifth signing of the summer after bringing in Bayern Munich left-back Omar Richards for a deal believed to be around £9million.

The London-born left-back, who joined the German champions from Reading last summer, has signed a four-year contract.

The 24-year-old former England U21 international, was part of the Bayern Munich squad that won their 32nd Bundesliga title and made 17 appearances across all competitions, including four in the Champions League.

Richards started his career at Fulham but moved on to Reading and made his senior debut for the Royals in August 2017. He made 104 appearances in all competitions for Reading before sealing a move to Bayern as a free agent at the end of the 2020/21 season.

"I'm thrilled to return to England by joining Nottingham Forest at such an exciting time," Richards told Forest's website. "The club has enjoyed an incredible last few months and there's great ambitions for the Premier League return.

"I've played against Forest in the past and they get such great backing from their fans, whilst the City Ground is an amazing place that I can now call home. I can't wait to join up with the squad this week and begin preparations for the new season."
Richards will join up with the Forest squad ahead of Tuesday's friendly with Burton Albion at the Pirelli Stadium.
"I've seen a lot of Omar through his time with Reading and, alongside our recruitment team, we have been following his progress in Germany," said Nottingham Forest Head Coach Steve Cooper.
"He previously established himself as one of the best full backs in the Championship, but has since gone on to experience the Champions League and the Bundesliga with one of the biggest clubs in the world.
"We believe that he can make a big impact in our return to the Premier League and are delighted that he has chosen to join us at Nottingham Forest."
