Nottingham Forest will be looking to take a big step towards Champions League qualification when they take on Brentford at the City Ground this Thursday night (1930 GMT).

It has been a long time since Forest fans last experienced big-time football, and Sunday’s FA Cup semi-final certainly scratched that itch.

Trouble is, once you get a taste of something, you’ll usually want more. That’s the case for the Tricky Trees who will undoubtedly want more experiences of that calibre.

Having enjoyed a terrific Premier League campaign, Forest could experience many more special occasions should they see the season through and qualify for European football.

The Tricky Trees head into Wednesday encounter sixth in the table, but just two points adrift of third-placed Newcastle United.

With a top five finish securing Champions League football, Nottingham are on the periphery of achieving something truly spectacular. The only question is whether they can hold their nerve in their final five matches of the season.

Brentford are the visitors to the City Ground on Thursday – a side that is more than capable of giving anyone a good game.

The Bees made light work of Brighton a fortnight ago, beating the Seagulls 4-2 at home. Before that, Thomas Frank oversaw back-to-back draws against Arsenal and Chelsea.

While Forest were busy with FA Cup duties over the weekend, Brentford had an opportunity to have a cheeky break. With that in mind, expect a rejuvenated Bees outfit this Thursday night.

If that wasn’t enough to worry about, Frank’s men have been outstanding on the road lately, losing one of their last eight games away from home and winning five such fixtures.

Forest certainly have a lot to consider as they look to take a big step towards Champions League qualification.

On paper, Nottingham Forest are coming into this game on the back of some poor results. The Tricky Trees have suffered three defeats in their last four – including a couple of potentially costly Premier League losses.

Nuno Espirito Santo and his men can’t afford another slip-up, not if they want to mix it up in the European elite next season.

Considering Forest have a lot to play for and Brentford… well… don’t, we have no choice but to put our chips on the home side.

Santo’s men have only suffered one home defeat since late-November, winning nine matches at the City Ground during this time.

We’re also adding over 2.5 goals to the acca. Three of the previous five meetings have seen this bet land.

Both teams to score has also enjoyed success. Four of the past five head-to-heads have seen the bet land. Four of Brentford’s previous five outings have also seen both teams net.

In terms of specific player bets, we’re backing Morgan Gibbs-White to have 1+ shots. The player hit the woodwork twice against Man City at the weekend and we’re backing him to threaten Brentford on Thursday.
