Napoli could smash MLS transfer record by signing Thiago Almada

Thiago Almada is being linked with a big-money move to Napoli according to reports but could yet land in the Premier League.

According to reports, Thiago Almada could smash the MLS transfer record that was set when Miguel Almiron moved to Newcastle United in 2019.

The 22-year-old has had quite a year after lifting the World Cup in Qatar and registering 15 goal involvements in 16 MLS matches.
Atlanta United are hopeful they can persuade their talisman to stay until December, which is when the season comes to an end.
There's also the potential for an agreement to be put in place this summer with the explosive attacker remaining stateside until the winter window.

The Argentinian joined his current club for a fee of $16 million in December 2021 at a time when Ligue 1 side Olympique Marseille were monitoring his progress.

The Athletic report that Serie A winners Napoli have made their interest known.
The Italians will need to add depth to retain their crown while competing in the Champions League.
Kvicha Kvaratskheila became the first Napoli player to both score and assist 10 goals in a single season since Dries Mertens in 2018/19.
Almada is well on his way to achieving that in MLS with seven goals and eight assists and would be capable of playing a Marek Hamsik-like role.
Prior to signing with Atlanta, it was rumoured he had struck a pre-agreement to join Manchester United from Velez Sarsfield.
Premier League clubs could firm up their interest before the transfer window slams shut in September.
