Man City v Club Brugge betting preview
Free-scoring City are back in the grove having won five of their last seven matches, scoring 28 goals. However, a 4-2 defeat to PSG on the penultimate matchday means they’re in danger of crashing out of the Champions League.
One would assume that Pep Guardiola’s side will make light work of Club Brugge, who currently sit 20th in the table with 11 points and look assured of a spot in the knockout rounds.
However, even a victory doesn’t guarantee their progression. If Stuttgart and PSG were to play out a draw, City would be at the mercy of Benfica, who visit Juventus, and Sporting Lisbon, who host Bologna.
The Belgian side are unbeaten in 20 matches across all competitions, including a 0-0 draw with Juventus, a 1-0 win over Aston Villa and a credible 1-1 draw away to Celtic. They also beat Sporting Lisbon 2-1.
The Premier League side may provide their stiffest test yet on paper, but it’s fair to say they haven’t been operating at the same level as some of the teams that Nicky Hayen’s side have already frustrated.
Both teams are enjoying a good run of domestic goalscoring form, so it wouldn’t be a surprise to see goals at the Etihad.
Each of City’s last six matches have featured four or more goals with both teams scoring in four of those and in seven of their last 10.
There have been 43 goals scored in Brugge’s last 10 Jupiler League fixtures. They’ve scored in all but one of their previous 26 matches across all competitions.
City ran out 4-1 winners when the sides last met in European competition in 2021, and we suspect this could go a similar way, but not before the visitors cause a few problems.
Christos Tzolis and Ferran Jutgla have caused problems for some well-established teams, averaging four shots per game between them. Alongside as City’s usual suspects, particularly Phil Foden, we fancy them enjoying themselves at the Etihad.
