Liverpool still without Alisson Becker, Joel Matip making progress

Liverpool's injury saga continues as goalkeeper Alisson Becker's return to training remains uncertain, while defender Joel Matip has made surprising progress in his recovery.

Alisson's absence from action has been prolonged since his last appearance against Burnley in February due to illness, followed by a hamstring injury during training shortly after.

The Brazilian shot-stopper has been sidelined for nearly two months, with recent reports indicating that he is still "several weeks" away from resuming full training, according to insights from the ECHO.

Despite this setback, manager Jurgen Klopp has expressed optimism about Alisson's comeback this season, with a potential return by the end of next month appearing most plausible.

In contrast, Matip has provided a glimmer of hope with an unexpected return to the AXA Training Centre.

The defender's season seemed to have ended prematurely after an ACL injury suffered against Fulham in December.

However, the 32-year-old has been seen back on the training pitch, engaging in running sessions.

Despite this positive development, there is no definitive timeline for Matip's return to competitive action.

"It would be a major boost to have Alisson back for the final weeks of the season, although Caoimhin Kelleher has proven to be a more than able deputy in recent games," the official Liverpool website stated.

"It would be fitting if Matip could get at least one more run out before the end of the season, and potentially the end of his time at Liverpool. Given the seriousness of his injury though, he will understandably not be rushed back."
