Liverpool news: Reds reach 2,000-goal milestone in Premier League

Liverpool become only the second club after Manchester United to reach 2,000 goals in the Premier League after Mohamed Salah's penalty against Brighton helped the Reds hit the milestone.

The Reds have been enjoying another prolific season under Jurgen Klopp and went into the game against Brighton sat on 1,998 Premier League goals.

Goals from Luis Diaz and then Mohamed Salah then took them over the top and secured a landmark 2,000 Premier League goals.

Only Manchester United have scored more goals in Premier League history, with the Red Devils out in front on their own on 2,173 after their years of success under Sir Alex Ferguson.
Arsenal are also closing in on the 2,000 mark, with Mikel Arteta's side sat on 1,997 going into Sunday's game against Leicester.

Liverpool started the season behind Arsenal in the all-time Premier League scoring charts, but have massively outscored the Gunners this season with the goals at Brighton taking them to 73 for the season.

Klopp's famed front three of Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino have a lot to do with Liverpool's burst in scoring over the last few years.

Salah has 115, Mane 86 and Firmino 70 in the Premier League, putting them fourth, fifth and sixth respectively in Liverpool's list of top Premier League scorers.

Salah, in particular, has had an incredible spell since arriving at Anfield in 2017, winning the first of his Golden Boot awards with a record 32 goals from 38 games.

He's scored 22, 19 and 22 league goals in his last three seasons, and is out in front again and a big favourite to win a third Golden Boot.

With that said, it almost seems fitting that the 29-year-old was the player to net Liverpool's historic 2000th Premier League goal.

Klopp gives Reds a scoring boost

Liverpool have been pretty consistent scorers ever since Mark Walters notched their first Premier League goal in a 2-1 over Sheffield United at Anfield in 1992.

They're regularly bagged in the high 60s and low 70s with their stand-out season being the 2013/14 campaign under Brendan Rodgers, when Luis Suarez inspired them to 101 league goals and a second-placed finish.

Klopp took a while to get going but has then overseen goal tallies of 78, 84, 89 and 85 goals before last year's injury-hit side managed just 68.
They're on course to record their best ever goal tally under Klopp as they chase down Manchester City in yet another Premier League title challenge.
