Liverpool news: Luis Diaz completes £45m move from Porto

Liverpool have announced the signing of 25-year-old Porto winger Luis Diaz, subject to work permit and international clearance.

Liverpool have completed their first transfer this January, securing the signature of Colombia international Luis Diaz.

The Reds agreed a deal of an initial £37.5million, with potential add-ons taking the fee to £45million.

The 25-year-old has been in superb form for Porto this season, scoring 14 goals and assisting a further five in 18 league appearances.

Diaz has signed a long-term contract, with the deal reportedly keeping the forward at Anfield until 2027.

He was top of Jurgen Klopp's transfer targets, with the German wanting to initially bring him in next summer.

However, following a bid from Tottenham earlier this week, Liverpool were forced to move early and get the deal over the line.
Following the move, Klopp said, "I could not be happier that we've been able to get this deal done and bring Luis to Liverpool.
"He is a player who is hungry for success and knows you have to fight to get what you want. He is a fighter, no doubt. He's a skilful team player who always has the goal in mind."
Currently away on international duty, Diaz is expected to feature in Colombia's World Cup qualifier against Argentina this Tuesday, before travelling to Liverpool and meeting up with the rest of the squad.
Should his work permit and international clearance be sorted in time, Liverpool fans can expect Diaz to be available for next Sunday's FA Cup tie against Cardiff.
