Jurgen Klopp happy with 'tricky' win over Aston Villa
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp felt his side fully deserved the 1-0 win over Aston Villa which kept them one point behind leaders Manchester City and one ahead of Chelsea in the three-way title race.
Mohamed Salah's 67th-minute penalty - his 21st goal of the season - helped his side equal the club record of scoring in 31 successive matches set previously in January 1958 and also brought up Klopp's 501st Premier League point.
"We were the better team for 75 minutes and opened up the game in the last 15 minutes and there was some situations which were tricky," Klopp said.
Asked what was said between him and Aston Villa manager Steven Gerrard, who left the club in 2015 four months before the German's arrival but was brought back as an under-18 coach two years later, Klopp added: "He said 'Congratulations' and I said 'Thank you'.
Gerrard admits he possibly could have been more ambitious on his return to Anfield but he did not want to go "gung ho" and be on the end of a thrashing.
He said: "We tried to get the balance right and I thought we did a good job of trying to contain Liverpool; you can try to be too gung ho and get hit for a scoreline which doesn't help.
