Leeds United youngster Charlie Cresswell on verge of joining Stoke City

Stoke City are reportedly on the verge of taking over Charlie Cresswell's loan from Millwall following the imminent departure of Harry Souttar.

Creswell's loan to Millwall may be brought to an abrupt end as Stoke are rumoured to be trying to take over their loan deal or even permanently sign the defender.

A deal will have to be struck quickly, though, as there isn't much time remaining in the January transfer window.

Cresswell's time at the Den has been somewhat of a rollercoaster. When called upon he has always performed to the best of his ability, even contributing to five goals in all competitions.

Recently, however, the 20-year-old has found himself out of favour with manager Gary Rowett as he has only made one appearance off the bench during the club's last six games.

Cresswell has been brought up in the Leeds academy, spending the entirety of his youth career with the team. However, as of today, it looks as if he has no future at the club due to the signings Leeds manager Jesse Marsch has made throughout the window.

A permanent transfer or a loan with an obligation to buy would likely be enough for Leeds to consider cutting his Millwall deal short. This is following their latest signing, Diogo Montiero, joining the ranks.
