Kevin De Bruyne of Manchester City

Man City’s departing midfielder Kevin De Bruyne is a wanted man as the summer transfer window comes into view. Question is, who will land the Belgian superstars signature come the new season?

Ten years, over 400 appearances, over 100 goals, six Premier League titles, two FA Cup triumphs, five League Cup wins and one Champions League conquest – De Bruyne has won it all during his time with the Citizens.

King Kev is now setting his sights on a new era away from the Etihad after the club decided not to offer the player a new contract.

City’s decision not to keep De Bruyne came as a surprise, especially with the 33-year-old still operating at an elite level.

However, with Pep Guardiola’s men coming well short of their standards this season, it appears the Spaniard will be looking to shake things up ahead of the new campaign.

De Bruyne’s next destination remains a mystery, though there’s no doubt that clubs across the globe are looking to land his signature.

Here, we take a closer look at De Bruyne’s options and examine the latest odds.

(Odds are correct as of article's last update)

    Napoli – 1/2

Having spent the majority of his career in gloomy cities likes Wolfsburg and Manchester, De Bruyne may like to spend the twilight years of his career in a warmer climate.

The Italian Serie A has no shortage of clubs looking to sign the Belgian star, with Napoli currently leading the race according to the bookmakers.

Former Chelsea and Tottenham boss Antonio Conte is the man in charge in Naples, meaning he will know all about De Bruyne’s qualities from his time in the Premier League.

Conte also has De Bruyne’s international teammate Romelu Lukaku at his disposal to try and twist his ear about coming to the club.

    Any MLS team – 5/2

Surely at 33, De Bruyne is still too young to go to America? Right?

The Belgian star still has a lot to give at the highest level and moving to the MLS would almost feel like giving up.

While the Americans have the financial resources to make this happen, the real question concerns De Bruyne’s priorities.

If the midfielder wants a nice pay day, MLS is a good option. But if he wants to remain in the elite, staying in Europe is the only way to go.

    Any Saudi team – 8/1

Again, moving to Saudi Arabia is comparable to the MLS – it’s throwing the proverbial towel and closing the curtain on your time in the elite.

The cheques in Saudi would be bigger than in the MLS. In fact, they’re bigger than anywhere else in the world. But it once again comes down to that question of priorities.

What does De Bruyne actually want out of his next move? If it is money, Saudi is the dream destination.

    Liverpool – 10/1

De Bruyne has done his fair share of interviews during his final weeks as a City player. One thing he insisted was his determination to play ‘good football’ following his departure. This would suggest the midfielder wants to continue plying his trade at a top club.

Speaking of top clubs, Liverpool are the biggest name on this list so far. The Reds have just powered to the Premier League title with ease and will be looking to strengthen for next season.

Signing De Bruyne would be rather controversial considering Liverpool and City's rivalry over the years. Nevertheless, Mo Salah recently offered a public invitation to De Bruyne, saying in an interview with Gary Neville that the club ‘has space for him’.

The one issue concerns money. Liverpool have just extended the contracts of Salah and Virgil van Dijk – the two highest paid players at the club. There probably isn’t room for a third player earning upwards of £400,000 per week, meaning De Bruyne would need to take a pay cut.

    Aston Villa – 10/1

As one of the growing forces in the Premier League, Aston Villa would certainly make a big statement if they got their hands on De Bruyne.

Villa are still battling for Champions League qualification and the business they do in the summer really does depend on whether they qualify for the competition.

Villa are already assessing the possibility and viability of bringing Marcus Rashford to the club on a long-term deal. Adding De Bruyne to their shopping list would inflate their wage bill.

    Chelsea – 25/1

De Bruyne’s former club Chelsea are quite low down the list. The Belgian midfielder had a disappointing spell with the club, failing to get much game time at Stamford Bridge over a decade ago.

With the Blues still in their rebuild phase, it’s hard to gauge whether De Bruyne would have any interest in a potential return. It’s fair to say that the earlier options on this list are a tad more attractive.

    PSG – 25/1

PSG are on the brink of history as they prepare to take on Inter Milan in the Champions League final at the end of May.

Luis Enrique is hoping to deliver the club’s first major European success after a superb season on all fronts.

The Spanish coach has been able to mould a close-knit team in Paris after waving goodbye to most of the club’s superstar signings. With that in mind, we’re not expecting the Parisians to make a move for De Bruyne.

    Barcelona – 25/1

Barcelona have also enjoyed a strong season, taking all the domestic honours away from Real Madrid.

Hansi Flick’s side also reached the Champions League semi-final before going out to Inter in a thrilling tie.

Getting their hands on De Bruyne would be huge for the Catalan club, though considering Barca are walking a thin financial tightrope, the midfielder would have to sacrifice a large chuck of his salary to make this happen.
