Keane Lewis-Potter news: Who is the Hull youngster being tracked by Spurs, Brentford and West Ham?

Hopes are high that Tigers youngster could emulate the Premier League success of another former Hull City star, Jarrod Bowen

Keane Lewis-Potter is attracting interest from a number of top-flight clubs determined not to make the same mistake they did with Jarrod Bowen.
Bowen rose to prominence at Hull City, scoring 14 goals in the Championship in 2017/18 and 22 in 46 games the following season.
A number of Premier League clubs watched Bowen but weren't convinced, including Everton who instead saw fit to splash out £60million on Alex Iwobi and Moise Kean.

Bowen was allowed to stay on East Yorkshire for another half-season, bagging a further 16 goals in 29 appearances before West Ham finally came calling, snapping up the Leominster-born attacker for a fee of around £22million.

With Bowen flourishing in East London and on the brink of England honours, there are similarly high hopes for hometown boy Lewis-Potter, who has reportedly been the subject of a £10million bid from Brentford.

Tottenham, too, are tracking the diminutive wideman, while West Ham are also thought to be weighing up a second raid on the MKM Stadium.

Everton are another side reportedly interested, having seen first-hand what the 20-year-old can do in their recent FA Cup third-round clash. It was a display that drew lavish praise from Match of the Day analyst Alan Shearer who said: The young boy Lewis-Potter was superb. He was a threat all night."

Lewis-Potter is more Hazard than Bowen

A left-winger who cuts in on his right foot and is also able to play as a central striker - he scored 128 goals in one season for Hessle Rangers in the Hull and District Youth League - he has understandably been likened to Bowen, who does the same on the opposite flank.

Hull City youth team coach Craig Fagan says Keane-Potter's low centre of gravity puts him more in mind of former Chelsea star Eden Hazard, however. He told The Athletic: "I've seen some players that are playing in the Premier League now who I don't believe are as good as Keane is.

"He's not as good as Hazard by any stretch of the imagination at this point but he's got the skills and abilities to be striving towards that."

However, despite Fagan's backing and a throng of clubs scrabbling for his services, Lewis-Potter is not yet at the same stage of development that Bowen was when he moved on from Hull.

Bowen had 117 Championship appearances under his belt - and seven in the Premier League - before his switch to the Irons.

Lewis-Potter has only made 49 appearances in the second tier, scoring eight, with last season's 13-goal haul coming as Hull won League One.

Bowen is also a much more robust build than Lewis-Potter who still cuts a slight figure despite having spent his 20 years battling the bitter winds blowing in off the North Sea.

Nevertheless, like Bowen, Lewis-Potter is not afraid of the physical stuff, with his trickery on the ball often marking him out as a target for uncompromising defenders.
"Even when I was playing for the under-18s I was always able to look after myself," he has said.
"When you see a young lad, you want to put a tackle on him to make sure he knows you're there.
"I'm going to get that but through all the years I've played for the 18s and 23s, I've always had that. I get on with it and don't let it affect me."

Hull in no rush to sell Lewis-Potter

As things stand, Lewis-Potter has 18 months remaining on his Hull deal, although the club holds the option of an additional year.
He has shown no sign of angling for a move, and with the club under no pressure to sell thanks to the recent takeover by Acun Medya, looks set to continue his progress at the Tigers until the summer at least.

"At this moment, even if they pay £20million I will not sell him," said owner Acun Ilicali of Brentford's bid.

Football.London journalist Alasdair Gold certainly doesn't see Tottenham, for one, showing their hand until the end of the campaign. Speaking about Lewis-Potter on his YouTube channel he said: "He is one that Spurs have been showing a little bit of interest in. They have spoken to his representatives, kind of setting something up for the future.

"I don't think it is likely they will move this month, it is more for the summer. It is just a case of sounding out a talented young player that a lot of clubs have their eye on."

A buy with a loan back option has been mooted and Spurs and others will be wise to draw on the experience of Everton with Bowen - good things don't always come to those who wait.
