July 23 Transfer Zone: Son signs with Romero to follow

We round up Friday's transfer tittle-tattle as Son signs on at Spurs, Romero may follow suit, Bowen could be off to Anfield, Varane is in Manchester United talks and Terry wants the Swansea job!

Heung-Min Son

Nice one, Son! The South Korea captain has agreed a new four-year contract at Tottenham.

"It was already a big honour to play here for six years," he said. "The club have showed me massive, massive respect. There was no decision. It was easy. I'm so happy to be here and will be so glad to see the fans again soon."
If only all the club's strikers had such easy decisions to make, eh?

Cristian Romero

Staying with Spurs, Atalanta defender Cristian Romero is believed to have agreed personal terms on a five-year contract in North London.
The offer for the Argentinian centre-back is in the region of £34m plus £8.5m in bonuses - although if any of those bonuses depend on Spurs winning trophies, their money is probably safe.

Rafael Varane

Real Madrid and Manchester United are in talks over the transfer of centre-back Rafael Varane.
The 28-year-old played four games for France at Euro 2020 and has now returned to training with Real, but it's believed his Old Trafford contract is currently being thrashed out.
He has played at the Bernabeu for 10 years. With Sergio Ramos having departed for PSG, Los Blancos are really clearing out the old guard.

John Terry

John Terry wants to step up from his assistant coach role under Dean Smith at Aston Villa to become manager of Swansea City, according to some sources. Talk is that his old Chelsea mate Jody Morris would be his right-hand man.

Odsonne Edouard

Brighton are looking to scupper bitter rivals Crystal Palace as both jostle to sign Celtic's French centre forward.
Edouard scored 22 goals in all competitions for the Bhoys last season, but manager Ange Postecoglou isn't exactly begging him to stay. He told Sky Sports: "While he is here I am treating him as a Celtic player... but I am not going to waste too much time in convincing people to stay."

Jarrod Bowen

Liverpool fans have been largely underwhelmed by news the Reds might be signing West Ham winger Bowen. Rumour is they may throw Xherdan Shaqiri in to sweeten the deal.

Manuel Locatelli

Sassuolo and Italy midfielder Locatelli is a wanted man following his performances for the Euro 2020 winners this summer. However, it seems Arsenal's overtures are to be rejected in favour of Juventus.

Never gonna happen...

Everton are the latest club to be thrown into the mix to be Danny Ings' next destination.

He's born and bred in Southampton and only wants to leave to win silverware. It would surely take a bigger temptation than Everton to prompt him to move? (But then Saints fans thought that about Ronald Koeman!)
