January 15 Paper Talk: Portland Timbers closing in on deal for Colombian striker

Falcao set to join Timbers with another South American signing also in the pipeline

SOCCER: Portland Timbers are being linked with an audacious move to sign Colombia striker Radamel Falcao.

El Tigre, who will be 35 next month, is currently at Galatasaray. He signed a three-year contract in 2019 but it is believed the Turkish club are willing to let him go and Timbers are favourites to add him to their roster.

Landing Falcao would represent something of a coup for the MLS side, with the striker, who has enjoyed prolific spells at Porto, Monaco and Atletico Madrid, still in form having notched 15 goals in 24 Super Lig appearances. (Varsky Sports)

BOXING: Deontay Wilder's chances of a third match-up with Tyson Fury look to be receding. And it appears the Alabama native only has himself to blame according to promoter Bob Arum. Several months ago, Wilder released a seething rant that pointed the finger directly at Fury, claiming the Gypsy King cheated during their second matchup. It has not gone down well in the Fury camp. "There was mediation over Christmas and New Years," said Arum. "I don't know, maybe the mediator will be able to solve the situation but we have a real problem. Tyson Fury has said to me and the mediator that not today, not tomorrow and not ever will he ever fight Wilder after what Wilder said to him. He regards it as a slur not only against him but against the Gypsy nation." (Barbershop Conversations)
