Jan Bednarek recalled by Southampton to aid relegation fight as Aston Villa loan is cut short

Poland international Jan Bednarek has been recalled by Southampton from his loan spell at Aston Villa.

The 26-year-old moved to Villa Park in the summer but has only featured four times.

Bednarek has played a combined 96 minutes for the Villans in the Premier League, and also made one full appearance in the FA Cup against Stevenage.

The 2-1 defeat against the League Two side was his last outing for Unai Emery's side.

He has now returned to St Mary's to help Nathan Jones' squad as they battle against relegation from the Premier League.

Southampton are currently bottom of the standings, though they're only two points from safety.

Bednarek has played 153 times for the Saints since joining from Lech Poznan in 2017.
The centre-back also boasts 46 international caps for Poland, including one appearance at the 2022 World Cup against France.
