France v England: Women's Euro tips, predictions, where to watch and bet builder

Defending champions England take on France in their opening match of this year's UEFA European Women's Championship.

Going into this summer’s tournament as champions, England have a point to prove as they attempt to retain their title and cement their position as one of the best international teams on the world stage. Their final warm-up game before the Euros showcased the attacking dynamism as the Lionesses beat Jamaica 7-0 in a landslide win.

However, France are no pushovers. Les Bleues have won their last eight matches and have recently looked impressive in victories over Belgium and Brazil.

France have never won the tournament with their most successful campaign coming in 2022 when they reached the semi-finals.

England manager Sarina Wiegman has been a Euros winner with England and the Netherlands. Her vast experience could tip the balance in favour of England with them being listed as 9/2 to win the competition, only behind Spain.

We’ve picked our match predictions for France v England which could give you a 9/1 bet builder if used together.

    England to win

Currently fifth in the women’s national team rankings, England are more than capable of producing a win in their first game at this year’s Euros.

Group D has been dubbed this tournament’s “group of death” with the Netherlands and Wales also being formidable opponents that could cause England problems down the line.

Therefore the Lionesses will be desperate to start the competition with a win in a highly competitive group stage.

    Alessia Russo to score anytime

You could say that Russo had a decent 2024-25 season. She finished as joint-top WSL scorer and scored a further 7 times as Arsenal were crowned Champions League winners.

She is an outside contender for this Euro’s top scorer award at 16/1 and she will be desperate to build on her previous total of 4 goals at the last Euros. That's why we predict her to be a difference maker during this match against France.

    Both teams to score

Whilst we foresee England coming out on top, we certainly don’t think France will go down without a fight.

With attacking options like Marie-Antoinette Katoto and Clara Mateo on their roster, any team would do well to come away unscathed. Without the reliability of Mary Earps between the sticks since her international retirement, England may be more susceptible to France’s attacking firepower and concede.
