Everton legend Duncan Ferguson set for League One job eight months on from rejecting Real Madrid gig

Duncan Ferguson is set for a return to management after reportedly bagging a job with League One strugglers Forest Green Rovers.

The former Everton assistant and caretaker manager left Goodison Park at the end of last season in order to continue his coaching development.

Ferguson is now expected to take the Forest Green hotseat following the sacking of Ian Burchnall, according to talkSPORT

The club are currently bottom of League One and are four points from safety. To make matters worse, the side haven't won a match since early December and are currently on an eight-match winless run across all competitions.
Ferguson may not boast a lot of experience in the managerial game, though he did impress during his time on Merseyside.

The 51-year-old joined Everton's first team coaching staff in 2014, before being named as caretaker manager in late 2019 following the dismissal of Marco Silva.

Ferguson was kept on as assistant coach by both Carlo Ancelotti and Rafael Benitez.
In January 2022, the Scot was once again appointed as caretaker boss as Everton sacked Benitez and brought in Frank Lampard.

Since leaving the Toffees, Ferguson held interviews with Middlesbrough and Wigan. According to The Times, he also travelled to Madrid in order to meet with Real Madrid chief, and his former boss, Ancelotti.

Ferguson was offered a job with Real Madrid eight months ago as Ancelotti tried to bring his former assistant to the Spanish capital.
