England return to Nottingham’s City Ground for the first time since 1941 as they take on Senegal in a tasty international friendly this Tuesday night (1945 BST).

Manager Thomas Tuchel warned his players about underestimating Andorra last Saturday, but evidently the squad was too busy soaking up the Barcelona sun to get the message.

The Three Lions ended up winning the World Cup qualifying match by a goal to nil, but considering most of the Andorran players work jobs outside of football, that has to go down as one of the most embarrassing results since the Euro 2016 defeat to Iceland.

Tuchel will be looking for a reaction when his men take on a far tougher challenge in Senegal – a team that is bursting with talent.

Manager Pape Thiaw has superstar names at his disposal, including Kalidou Koulibaly, Idrissa Gueye, Ismaïla Sarr and Nicolas Jackson.

Unlike Andorra, Senegal’s team is certainly not made up of semi-pro waiters. This is a side which has reached the AFCON final twice since 2019, while also reaching the last-16 at the 2022 World Cup.

Senegal are also unbeaten in 15 matches and arrive in Nottingham on the back of a 1-1 draw against the Republic of Ireland.

For England, Tuesday marks an opportunity to rebuild momentum. While Tuchel kicked off his new managerial chapter with three wins, none of those games saw a particularly strong performance from the Three Lions.

What’s more, considering the level of quality in this Senegal side, Tuchel’s men are at serious risk of being turned over should they deliver another underwhelming performance.

England thumped the Lions of Teranga 3-0 when the two nations met at the 2022 World Cup. However, Senegal have since improved and even bagged a recent victory over fifth-ranked Brazil.

The Three Lions are yet to concede a goal under Tuchel’s reign, but it’s fair to say that Senegal have the tools to give England their toughest test under their new manager.

Call us rash, but Saturday’s performance against Andorra sucked out every bit of confidence we had when it comes to England.

After a long Premier League season, the last thing these players want is a meaningless international friendly in the middle of summer.

For Senegal, this is far from meaningless. A win on English soil would mark another huge step in the right direction for the African nation.

If that wasn’t enough to convince you, don’t forget that England have only won one of their last four international friendlies. With that in mind, we’re backing the visitors to pick up a famous win.

England’s games under Tuchel have all seen under 3.5 goals and we’re backing that trend to continue. We’re also backing the Three Lions to have over 3.5 shots on target.

In terms of specific players, Crystal Palace midfielder Ismaila Sarr is the one to watch. The 27-year-old has three goal contributions in his previous three matches for club and country. We’re backing the Palace man to score or assist at the City Ground.
