  • David Moyes Empathises With West Ham Fans' Frustration But Insists They Are In A Strong Position

David Moyes empathises with West Ham fans' frustration but insists they are in a strong position

Manager David Moyes says the "bigger picture" is still positive for West Ham United despite a poor performance against Bournemouth.

he Hammers were booed off by some supporters after labouring to a 1-1 draw at home to Bournemouth on Thursday night.

But they head to Manchester United on Sunday lying sixth in the Premier League after a six-match unbeaten run, including a 2-0 win over the Red Devils before Christmas.

“I’d have been frustrated as well because we didn’t play well,” said Hammers boss Moyes.

“The bigger picture is we go to Manchester United in a strong position. We had a good result against them at home earlier this season. That wasn’t too long ago, it feels as if it’s a quick turnaround to this game.

“We were in better form and more ready then because we had less injuries, people being away, etc. I understand the reaction against Bournemouth because we didn’t perform well.”

Said Benrahma’s protracted move to Lyon finally went through on Friday leaving Moyes short of options on the left wing with Lucas Paqueta still injured.

“Is that a problem? It could be,” he added. “We’ve looked really, really hard to try and find one. We’ve made offers for some younger ones, we’ve tried for some other ones and looked really hard. We wanted something else.

“The problem you’ve got is that when you’ve got Paqueta, (Mohammed) Kudus and (Jarrod) Bowen it’s very difficult to say we’ll get one better than them.

“We’ve tried to find a way of maybe getting someone behind them, a back-up who could do it but we’ve not been that successful in getting them. Mainly because either we couldn’t get them or the prices were too big.”

Michail Antonio is still injured for the trip to Old Trafford, although he has resumed light training, while Vladimir Coufal returns from suspension.
