Is Cristiano Ronaldo’s time in Saudi Arabia at an end or is he just playing silly buggers? Planet Sport checks out the latest odds in a possible transfer move.

The 40-year-old superstar of world football Cristiano Ronaldo could be on the verge of packing his bags for pastures new.

When you post a cryptic message on social media after the final game of the Saudi season saying "This chapter is over. The story? Still being written. Grateful to all." It’s going to whip up a transfer rumour storm especially as he is out of contract next month.

His club Al Nassr were beaten 3-2 by Al-Fateh and finished third in the Saudi Pro League. He won't have been happy about another failure in the league.

Ronaldo hasn’t been showered in silverware while in Saudi, with only the Arab Club Champions Cup in his locker and a move seems a lot more likely than signing a new deal.

Plenty of clubs will be queuing up for his signature, although not many will be able to afford his wage.

The other factor concerns June's Club World Cup. He could be lured to clubs competing in that tournament on a short-term deal, in order to help the marketing of a tournament that nobody in Europe appears that interested in.

With the World Cup in North America next year, and Ronaldo making no noises about retiring this summer, perhaps a move to the MLS could be on the cards?

Messi v Ronaldo in the MLS, or the duo playing the same team could make football explode in the US and certainly a move that President Trump would be all over like a rash.

But then just when everyone thinks he's off Ronaldo looks set to stay at Al Nassr, with reports he is going to sign a new deal.

"Future? Nothing will change. Al Nassr? Yes," the forward told reporters after winning the Nations League with Portugal.

This is just the kind of to-ing and fro-ing that creates a volatile transfer market. Here we take a look at some of the clubs that could be interested in taking Ronaldo under their wing.

Please be aware these odds are for the club he will be at after the summer window is closed and are correct as of the article's last update.

    Any Portuguese club - 5/2

The romantic return to his homeland will have Sporting (7/1) at the top of the list having made 25 appearances for the club in 2002/03.

They are reportedly the wealthiest club in the league just ahead of Benfica (33/1) and Porto (33/1), but he’d have to take a huge wage cut.

Perhaps a player-manager role in his homeland could be offered as bait, and that might open up some smaller clubs than the big three.

    Any MLS team - 7/2

The 2026 World Cup is a huge test for the USA’s appetite for the sport and having Ronaldo playing in the MLS before it makes it even more appealing.

Ronaldo coming up against Messi for the first time in seven years would be pant-wettingly exciting for bandwagon jumping football fans.

Los Angeles FC (5/1) might have the financial backing to lure him to Tinseltown but playing with Messi at Inter Miami (18/1) is an option that could knock the football world off its hinges.

Any South American club - 4/1

There have been reports that one of the four Brazilian clubs in the Club World Cup had made an approach to sign Ronaldo.

Botafogo (10/1) have been linked with Ronaldo before and would appear to be leading the race, but this is likely to be a short-term deal and he might move again after the tournament is over.

    Any Mexican club - 4/1

Everyone forgets that the 2026 World Cup is also in Mexico and Canada, and not just the US.

So why wouldn’t Ronaldo consider a move to the US’s neighbours across the border, the same marketing rules apply.

Wages would be the main sticking point here as the big clubs Monterrey (10/1), America, Cruz Azul, Pumas and Guadalajara can’t compete with the cash floating around the MLS.

    Al-Hilal - 5/1

Were the odds-on favourite with reports that the runners-up in the Saudi Pro have first option on his signature.

Al-Hilal are playing in the June's Club World Cup and that appeared to be driving most of the interest regards Ronaldo's next destination.

It will take another huge pay check to keep Ronaldo in the country, and this still might be a short-term deal for the tournament only. He could still move away after that.

Now they are out to 5/1 with reports Ronaldo may stay at Al Nassr.

    Any Spanish club - 6/1

Ronaldo has done his business in Spain and La Liga might be too much of a step up from what he is used to in Saudi.

He’d hardly get a game at the big La Liga clubs and the smaller clubs couldn’t afford him and he wouldn’t want to be involved in a relegation dogfight.

Real Madrid (20/1) and Palmeiras (16/1) are the only clubs having their necks out in the market.

    Any English club - 8/1

Same applies for a return to the Premier League.

Manchester United (40/1) have washed their hands of him already and Manchester City (40/1) wouldn’t touch him with a barge pole.

Newcastle are the only team that could afford him, but their transfer policy is way too sensible for that.

Maybe he could throw his hat in the ring for the Tottenham manager’s job when it comes available.

    Other Ronaldo next club odds:

    Any Italian club - 14/1

    Any French club - 14/1

    Any Turkish club - 14/1

    Any German club - 20/1

    Any Chinese club - 20/1
